La Habra Hilltoppers 4-H Club
Welcome to the Hilltoppers Project Description Webpage!
This page is devoted to show what activities are involved within each Co-Ed Project of our club. Each club has many different Project opportunities that may or may not pertain to what the individual hopes to become in their future. All Projects within 4-H are Co-Ed, even though the Project title might not seem like it. However...on this webpage, you will find out what each projects current project involvement is, what their goal, and/or yearly plan might be. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please return to the main webpage by clicking on the link below the text, and click on the animated mailbox. Enjoy!
Sewing:
We first started with the basics of hand
sewing:buttons, with and without shanks. Then we moved on to the running stitch
to make a simple nametag. We started on the sewing machine by stitching on a
paperdesign with colored thread. This taught us how to control the fabric
(paper) and turn corners, as well as starting and stopping the proper way. The
girls got into the project further and made a jumper or a romper using the
sewing machine and the serger. All got blue ribbons at Youth Expo this year,
and one girl got runner-up best of show on her romper. We will learn modeling
at our next meeting and they will model at the community meeting. To do this
they will also have to write their own commentaries to describe their garment.
The year will finish with proper paperwork to document cost of the project and
also what the girls have learned through the year. We have 6 happy sewers who's
eyes light up at the finished product.
