Coricopat and Tantomile

Coricopat and Tantomile are identical twins,
and they two are very mystical.
They know when something is going to happen (-just like misto!).
They also move in sync with one another and always know what the other is feeling.
So they recognise Grizabella before anyone else is sensing her coming
-exepting Mistoffelees.
If you observe them during the show, you will see that they two are the first in the stage as soon as a song begins.
They are respected by all Jellicle cats.

During the opening number first sings Coricopat "Are you tense when you sense there's a storm in the air?"
and little later Tantomile "Can you ride on a broomstick to places far distance",
and in "Old deuteronomy" after Misto's remark "Old Deuteronomy?" they begin the song by singing (together)
"I believe it is old deuteronomy". In the Jellicle Ball they sing (together, of course) "Jellicle cats are white and black."

About Coricopat:
Coricopat, the male cat of the twins, is a sleek, tall cat.
In the same age bracket as Mistoffelees and Tantomile,
He is old enough to know the ropes at the Jellicle Ball,
and young enough to thoroughly enjoy himself there.
Coricopat is all but inseperable from his twin, Tantomile.

The actor playing Coricopat also doubles as one of the Macavity Rats in the Broadway production.
In London, Coricopat doubles as Genghis during "Growltiger's Last Stand."
Coricopat actors also sometimes understudy Mistoffelees.

He is played by:

  • Donald Waugh: Original London Cast, 1981.
  • Rene Clemente: Original Broadway Cast,1982. For a while, he doubled as Mungojerrie!
  • Geoffrey Jenkins: Original Sydney Cast,1985.
  • Chauner Gallan: Original Paris Cast, 1989.
  • Steve Ochoa: Broadway Cast, mid-1990's. He also played Mistoffelees in the winter of 1995.
  • Tommy Sliden: Video 1997-98;London

    About Tantomile:
Tantomile is the female twin cat.
Seemingly in the same age categoty as Misto and (of course) Coricopat,
Tantomile has a mystical air about her, even though she doesn't talk very much.
She swoons over the Rum Tum Tugger during his number, but for the most part,
    she and Coricopat are inseparable.
They keep themselves for most of the show, and often dance and move unison.

The actress playing Tantomile often covers the roles of Bombalurina and Demeter.
Tantomile might be listed as a "chorus role," but it's a difficult one.
Much of the choreography requires Tantomile and Coricopat to move in perfect synchonization.
Tantomile is one of the most open characters in terms of height requirements,
and has been played by both tall and short actresses.

    She is played by:

  • Femi Taylor: Original London Cast, 1981; Video, 1997-98.
Taylor appeared in the Cats video--not as Tantomile, but as a new cat, Exotica.
  • Janet Hubert: Original Broadway Cast,1982.
  • Roula Kanta: Original Sydney Cast, 1985.
  • Joelle Turcotte: Original Paris Cast, 1989.
  • Kaye Brown: Video, 1997-98;London.
