Jemima

Jemima (or Sillabub, just like you want) is the youngest cat in the Jellicle tribe.
Everyone thinks that Victoria is the youngest, but it's not true.
Jemima displays extreme innocence as well as being a little devil (sometimes).

She sings in the Opening Number "Can you find your way blind when you're lost in the street?"
And in "The Jellicle Ball" she sings with Victoria (and Munkustrap)
"The Jellicle Moon is shining bright, Jellicles come to the Jellicle Ball",
and little later "And pleasant to hear when we caterwaul."
She sings also in "The moments of happiness":

Moonlight. Turn your face to the moonlight.
Let your memory lead you,
Open up, enter in.
If you find there the meaning of what happiness is.
Then a new life will begin.

And in "Memory":

Daylight, see the dew on the sunflow.
And a rote that is fading,
Roses whither away.
Like the sunflow I yearn to turn my face to the down.
I am waiting for the day.

And in the same song, she joins Grizabella's song and duets with her:

Sunlight through the trees in summer,
endless masquerading.
Like a flower as the dawn is breaking,
The memory is fading.

Jemima seems to have a connection with the moonlight and the dawn,
and Victoria is a good friend to her.
She, along with Victoria, try to welcome Grizabella back into the tribe.
She sees Grizabella for who she really is, unlike the other members.

Jemima and Sillabub are the exaxt same character.
For some reason, different productions of the show have been split between the two names,
they show up with nearly equal frequency.

She is played by:

  • Sarah Brightman: Original London Cast, 1981.
  • Whitney Kershaw: Original Broadway cast, 1982.
  • Anite Combe: Original Sydney Cast, 1985.
  • Anne Marie Ohlicher: Original Paris Cast, 1989.
  • Veerle Castellyn: Antwerp, 1996; London, c.1998; Video, 1997-98.
For some perplexing reason, Castellyn's major songs were dubbed over in the Cats Video.
However, you can hear her singing for herself in several scanes in the film:
including the Prologue, The Song of the Jellicles (Jellicle Ball), and the first memory
    (right after the Jellicle Ball).
