*~Magical Mr.Mistoffelees~*

You ought to ask Mr.Mistoffelees!
The original Conjuring cat--(There can be no doubt about that)
Please listen to me and don't scoff.
All his inventios are off his own bat.
There's no such Cat in the Metropolis;
He holds all the monopolies for performing surprising illusions
and creating eccemtrick confusions.

The greatest magicians have something to learn.
From Mr.Mistoffelees! Conjuring tun.

Mistoffelees is the master
of all confusing illusions and tricks,
and even old magicians can learn from him!

He's the greatest cat in this musical.
Who else can pull seven kittens right out of a hat,
or disappear into thin air and dance amazingly well, or shoot lightening out of his fingers? Not many, that's for sure.
He knows always what is going to happen, with Tantomile and Coricopat.
He's the hero of the day,
he's the one who turns slim, trim Cassandra into Old Deuteronomy,
rescuing him from MacAvity's clutches.

Misto is a fairly young cat; a kitten prodigy. He's good friends with Alonzo and Pouncival. He also dances many "gavottes and jigs" with Skimble,
and he spends a lot of time with Victoria (a romance?;)

You can find him in magical, mystical poses.
He is on the floor a lot, especially in Bustopher jones' song,
but that only makes him look more like cat.
In his song, his entrance is magnificent: He comes down from the sky
on a glittering rope, sends the rope back up and says: Presto!

Mistoffelees is a rather major character.
In the opening he sings "the Pied Piper's assistant?".
He sings the invitation to the jellicle ball, interupting Victorias's little stretch session.
During the Battle of Pekes and Pollicles, he portrays one of the
"braw Scottish cousins [which] were snappers and piters."
During the jellicle ball, he sings " We like to practice our airs and graces",
with Skimble he sings " We know how to dance a gavotte and a jig" and with two other male-cat
"We will practice a caper or two in the hall".He also dances alot in this scene.
In addition, he is the most prop in Busthopher's song and also dances in the beginning of jennyanydot's song.

Mistoffelees' role differs considerably from production to production.
On Broadway and in the Video, he is mainly a dancer, but sings in a number of songs.
In the Vienna, Eurotour, Paris and Zürich productions, he was completely mute,
an the "Invitation to the Jellicle Ball" number was sung by Munkustrap.
In London, he sometimes sings the Gumbie Cat song; and dances always a solo with her.

In the original London production, Mistoffelees as "Quaxo" narrated the shoe instead of Munkustrap.
By the time the show reached America, Munkustrap's character had been expanded,
but for a while Misto still sang the "Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer" number.
As the show was fine-tuned, Misto was taken out of the M&R number and the part turned more and more torward dance.

In some Japanese productions, Mistoffelees is a white cat!
(I wonder, what coloured cat is Victoria in there...)

During the opening of the Mr.Mistoffelees number, Misto wears a coat crafted with Austrian crystal beads and state-of-the-art lightning devices.
The jacket is extremely fragile and weights 10 pounds, and so it is worn for only a few minutes.
