Pouncival

Pouncival is one of the younger cats, what you can see on stage pretty well,
because he likes to do acrobatic things.
He's a wily chorus kitten that seems to love trouble.
He spends most of the show romping around the stage
and playing tricks. His sense of decorum is rather skewered:
he finds an audience with Bustopher jones by rolling around on the floor.
You might also notice him running late in the "Pekes and Pollicles" number.
Pouncival has a dance duet with Mistoffelees at the Jellicle Ball.
If you look closely, on the video Pouncival is the first cockroach on the stage. I think that he looks much like Tumblebrutus.
That's why i don't know which one sings in the Opening Number "Have you been an alumnus of the heaven and hell?".

The Pouncival character does not exist in the London production.
He is replaced by Bill Bailey and/or Carbucketty.
In the Video, Pouncival has Carbucketty's costume and makeup.

Pouncival actors generally understudy Mistoffelees. Several actors,
including Jacob Brent, have started in cats as Pouncival,
performed as Mistoffelees, and been 'promoted' to the larger role.

He is played by:

  • Herman W. Sebek: Original Broadway Cast, 1982.
  • Jess Jiminez:Original Sydney Cast, 1985.
  • Devanant N. Janki: Broadway cast, 1994.
  • Karl Morgan: Video, 1997-98; London.
