Victoria

Victoria is the only quite white cat, and absolutely the best dancer on the tribe.
She doesn't sing a lot, but she dances much. She has a lovely scene right after the Naming of Cats,
in which she stretches and preens herself and looks notably catlike:
immediately afterward, she does a little jog with Mistoffelees,
during which she gives her a cute little grin.

She sings with Jemima the first few lines of the Song of Jellilces, "And pleasant to hear when we caterwaul."
Later on, she and two other lady cats (Etcetera and Rumpleteazer)
chant "And white" in a most offended manner.
During the Pekes and Pollicles, she plays a poodle, and she also portrays a mouse
during Jellyanydot's song.

It is victoria who loses her innocence in the Jellicle Ball.
(Great job Webber. I can see six years old kid at the show "Mommy, what are the kitties doing?"
"They are dancing, dear." "But why did he grab her boobs?" disgusting...)
Anyway, that's the final step to adulthood in a cat's life.
Victoria is the cat who finally touched Grizabella.

Victoria's solo at the beginning of "Invitation to the Jellicle Ball" is tugher than looks!
The actress is working on a slippery raked (slanted) stage, which can throw her balance off consoderably.

In the original B'Way production, Victoria, and not Jemima, sung in "The Moments of Happiness."
However, Jemima kept her solos before and during "Memory."
This variation disappear from the show early on, but does appear in the B'Way cast album.

Victoria may appear to be a white cat, but her costume is actually painted with tan and pink lines.

She is played by:

  • Finola Hughes: Original London cast, 1981.
  • Cynthia Onrubia: Original Broadway cast, 1982.
Onrubia, a former child actress, appeared in the B'way production of a Chorus Line at the tender age 15.
  • Greta Thomas: original Sydney cast, 1985.
  • Ellis Van Evert: Original Paris cast, 1989.
  • Phyllida Crowley Smith: Video, 1997-98; London.
