Album Review:
"Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band Live 1975-1985" was Springsteen's first live album after beginning his studio career. Because of his incredible array of songs, it was turned into a 3-CD set. Surprisingly, despite the price tag around 50 dollars, the album was once #1 on the charts. There is a lot to this album, not only are the hits there, but many of them are arranged and performed superior to their original albums. Some, such as "Thunder Road" and "Born in the U.S.A." and "No Surrender" use different instruments for the entire song, while others such as "The Promised Land" throw in beautiful and new instrumentals. Then there are songs like "Candy's Room" and "Independance Day" which Springsteen sings far better than in the original albums.
Their are songs here which are famous Springsteen songs but not found in his studio work. Their is "Spirit in the Night," "Growin' Up" and "Rosalita," three songs previously in live albums, but not nearly as well arranged as here. Then there are songs like the famous "Because The Night" which Springsteen and Smith wrote, which Bruce recorded here for the first time, this is a must have for any Springsteen fan. Their are also several other songs that are released in this album for the first and only time, making it a must have. But the most impressive part of this album is the 40 different tracks, taken from 1975-1985, the majority of course happening in the '80s when the bulk of Springsteen's music and success came.
Only the consumer can decide whether this Box set is worth the pricetag or not, but if you want to get a feel for Springsteen's music without purchasing his first 7 CD's, this is definitely your ticket. This is also a great deal for anyone who enjoys "The Boss" because he proves his reputation as Rock's most popular live performer since Elvis Presley is merited. This Box set has everything in it, and then some.
