QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
************************

QUESTION 1: I have an uncircumcised penis. Is it normal for the part under
the foreskin of my penis to be extremely sensitive? It even hurts
sometimes when I receive oral sex. It also seems to be abnormally red at
the tip of my penis.

DR. DREW: Some guys talk about this extreme sensitivity, circumcised or
otherwise. It does not sound like you're describing anything that is
particularly abnormal. If the color has always been the same, then this is
also something to not worry about. Because you are sexually active, if
there is any change in the color or you have a burning sensation or a
discharge, talk with your health-care provider.

Circumcision of the penis has been shown to change the skin at the tip
(also called glans penis) of the penis. Some people have theorized that
this might create a slight decrease in sensitivity. In no way, however,
should you feel that circumcision is a required intervention for your
problem.

QUESTION 2: I am 25 and pride myself on having dated nothing but beautiful
women my whole life. Recently, I've stayed away from a serious
relationship and have been dating a lot of different women. These women
don't look like my past girlfriends and for that reason alone, I don't
consider getting serious with them. There always seems to be one physical
thing about them that turns me off. Do you think that I am just picky or
do you think I will regret this when I am 30?

DR. DREW: Let me just say that whenever you objectify another person in
any way, it tends to distance you from any real connection with them. It
sounds like you have a rather compulsive and superficial quality to your
relationships. As a result, any connection you make with another person
will suffer. I believe it is indeed more than just pickiness. You may well
have regrets later on having passed up a relationship--but there's no way
of predicting this.

QUESTION 3: I am still a virgin. I was wondering if it hurts when the
hymen is broken? Also, will I bleed?

DR. DREW: Most women describe the initial rupture of the hymen as
something that is moderately uncomfortable. There can be some bleeding,
but it is not overwhelmingly painful. Since the hymen tends to rupture on
its own as girls get older, by the time some are in their teens, their
hymen may have already spontaneously ruptured.

QUESTION 4: I am a 15-year-old female and I recently started cutting
myself. I have been very depressed for a year or two now and believe it
has something to do with my step-brother molesting me. I don't understand
why I cut, or what makes me cut. I've told my boyfriend about it, but hide
it from every one else. Is there a way I can get help without anyone else
knowing? I don't want this to get out of control.

DR. DREW: The fact that you acknowledge your need for help is a very
important first step. Cutting is basically just a way to manage
overwhelming feelings. Why this particular behavior? Various theories
exist, but I believe it reflects the level of intensity of the negative
feelings these individuals are experiencing. I suspect that sexual abuse
figures into why you feel the need to cut yourself. However, it doesn't
change the fact that treatment would be very helpful to you. How to get
treatment without involving your parents can be rather difficult. You
could start off by talking to somebody at your school, or perhaps finding
a community resource (counselor or social worker). I wish I understood why
you feel the need to keep this silent. Honesty about your feelings and
these behaviors is so important. It seems as though you are ashamed and
embarrassed, but having people in your life that understand what you're
going through will be very important if you truly wish to get better.

QUESTION 5: I am 20 years old and think little girls are sexy. I realize
that I could never have a productive relationship with a child, but I
can't seem to have a productive relationship with a grown woman. I love
children and feel as though a child should not have sexual burdens. I know
that I am not normal, but am worried about this attraction leading to a
complex and frustrated adult life. What can I do?

DR. DREW: I am terrifically concerned by your preoccupation. This could
lead to something awful for you and destructive for any of your future
victims. Please seek professional help immediately.
