QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
*****************************
QUESTION 1: I'm bothered because one of my friends is always peeing in
public places. I think he may have a fear of bathrooms since he's always
relieving himself in inappropriate places (around the corner, on a tree,
etc.). How do I convince him to stop?
DR. DREW: I doubt you'll have much success convincing him to stop. I also
doubt that this has anything to do with some aversion to public bathrooms.
These incidents are basically acts of bravado combined with a twisted
sense
of humor.
QUESTION 2: Does it mean anything to always have sex with inanimate
objects
(like a mattress or a stool)? Is this weird or what? Maybe, I'm just
deprived of sex. What do you think?
DR. DREW: This is actually not all that uncommon, particularly for males.
Unless someone begins to prefer this form of stimulation over engaging in
an intimate relationship with a person, this type of behavior is not
indicative of any serious problems. I have no doubt that if you merely
develop a relationship, these preoccupations and behaviors will subside.
QUESTION 3: Under what conditions can sperm live and still get a woman
pregnant? Is it possible for a woman to get pregnant if a guy's sperm just
gets around her vaginal area and not inside?
DR. DREW: Young people frequently ask this question. Let's just say that
until the sperm dries out, it can get a woman pregnant. Similarly, sperm
that has any capacity to get into the genital tract can carry the
potential
of pregnancy. Although it would be very unlikely, sperm present around the
vaginal area could potentially get further into the genital tract and
cause
a woman to become pregnant.
QUESTION 4: I am 15 and recently underwent a test for Valley Fever and
Juvenile Arthritis. I was wondering if you could explain to me what Valley
Fever is.
DR. DREW: Valley Fever, otherwise known as Coccidiomycosis, is a
relatively
unusual condition, generally limited to the Central Valleys of California
and the Southwest. Sometimes it can be very mild, merely causing flu-like
symptoms. In more severe manifestations, it can cause pneumonia and,
rarely, liver infection and/or infections of the central nervous system.
But, generally, it resolves itself without any treatment. In fact, most
people aren't even aware they have it. Even in more severe cases, it can
be
treated rather easily these days. Since persistent arthritis can be part
of
the presenting features of this condition, I suspect you were tested for
Juvenile Arthritis and Valley Fever because you were having pain in your
joints.
