QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
******************************************
QUESTION:
When Im in a public bathroom (with other people around), I become "pee
shy." Is there anything I can do to overcome this problem?
DR. DREW:
There aren't any specific behavioral techniques to overcome this, but
these types of fears can be improved through, shall we say, practice?
Basically, you learn to overcome or lessen your anxiety about peeing in
public by easing yourself into the environment and gradually increasing
your exposure to more anxiety-provoking situations. In other words, you
start by using empty restrooms, then work your way up to busier, more
crowded restrooms until you get over your shyness. Gradually, you will
overcome this if you work at it. There are medications that loosen the
muscles in your bladder and allow urine to flow more easily, but I'm not a
big fan of using drugs to solve this kind of problem.
QUESTION:
My girlfriend and I have been seeing each other off and on for two years.
For the most part, the sex is great. However, I have noticed that she does
not produce as much lubrication as the other girls I have been with. Is
there something psychological behind her lack of wetness, or is every
woman different?
DR. DREW:
It is true that some women produce more or less lubrication than others.
However, when a woman is more aroused, she does tend to produce more
lubrication. This doesn't necessarily mean that your girlfriend is more or
less aroused in the moment, but you should talk to her during a nonsexual
time to find out if this is an issue where she'd like your help. Not
producing enough lubrication can make sex very uncomfortable for her, but
you can remedy the problem by using a water-based lubricant, like K-Y
Jelly or Astroglide. Keep in mind that if psychological issues are the
cause behind this, the best way to help her is to make her feel loved and
secure in the relationship.
QUESTION:
I am 18 and I have a smelly groin. Months ago, I had a staph
infection which I think, caused this smell. I took medication that
cleared up the infection, but the smell is still there. What can I do?
DR. DREW:
I don't think that a staph infection could be causing this bad odor. In
fact, staph infections aren't typically followed by any odor. Some other
bacteria is most likely causing this smell, so you should talk to your
doctor about how to make it go away. You didn't mention whether you're
male or female, so I have no way of knowing what the origin of this odor
is. If you're female, you definitely need to see a gynecologist to find
out what's behind this problem. This condition should be considered a
medical problem until proven otherwise.
QUESTION:
I want to see my girlfriend have sex with another guy. Is there any
condition or illness associated with wanting something so abnormal?
DR. DREW:
As far as I know, wanting to see your girlfriend have sex with another guy
doesn't mean you have a specific condition or illness, but it clearly
means something. Obviously, fulfilling this fantasy of yours would
diminish the intimacy between you and your girlfriend. This might also be
a way for you to act out aggressions or desires by proxy. I suspect that
you have intimacy issues, and there are lots of reasons why you might have
this fantasy. This is something you need to explore, perhaps with the help
of a professional counselor or therapist.
