On That Day
If only I could understand
What happened on that day
If only I could make amends
For what happened, in some way
The date was April twentieth,
It dawned both clear and bright
Yet before the sun would set that day,
A shadow would fall, turn day to night
They walked into school that day
Began shooting left and right
The students screamed and ran to hide,
Anywhere out of the gunman’s sights
Run faster, run farther,
There’s just no place to go
Fifteen people would die that day,
Fifteen crosses in the snow
The walls were shaking from the bombs,
Or perhaps from God’s own tears
Two gunmen walked into school that day,
And awakened a nation’s fears
So many people don’t seem to care,
What happened on that day
They do not wish to see the tears,
They want it all to go away
But things will never be the same,
Though I know you wish they could
We could have stopped what happened that day,
We can, we will, we should
For it lies within each of us,
To not let them die in vain
For if we remember what happened that day,
Perhaps there are lives that we can change
Do not let these people be gone,
Don’t let their memories be lost
For if we never forget that day,
And what was paid, how high the cost
Perhaps this will not come again,
This tragedy that broke our hearts
For if we hold our children close,
We can stop these things, before they start.

Ok so you have seen my site. You have learned a little about me and everyone who died at Columbine High School on 20 April, 1999. The question now is, what are YOU going to do about it? I know you are thinking there is nothing you can do. Well I am here to tell you that there is a lot you can do.
It sounds simple, but be nice to people. Treat others with respect and they in turn will treat you with respect.
There is much more than that you can do. Here are some sites that will help you find out more.
This site is an activist site about taking a stand in your school and promising to be more aware of the people around you. You can dowload a petition for you and your school to sign and wallet cards to pass out to remind people of their promise.
Teens Rallying against Violence In Schools is what TRAVIS stands for. Two teenage guys started this worthwhile movement and it has been going strong ever since. Their site is a good place to get started if you are looking to make a stand in your community.
