The Life Of Tupac Amaru Shakur


June 16, 1971 -Tupac Shakur is born in New York University Hospital to Afeini Shakur and his biological father Billy Garland. While a member of the Black Panther Party, Afeini was released from jail only a month earlier on charges of conspiracy to bomb several public places in NYC. Tupac's father Billy Garland was not a part of Afeini Shakur's life at the time of Tupac's birth and had no contact with Tupac until almost 20yrs later. 1971-1986 -Tupac and his mother Afeini lived in NYC moving often between Bronx and Harlem and at different times residing in homeless shelters. September 1983 -At the age of 12 Tupac joined a Harlem theater group, The 127th Street Ensemble. In his first performance, he played Travis in the play "A Raisin in the Sun". 1985 -The Shakur family moved to Baltimore,MD. Tupac enrolled in the Baltimore School for the Performing Arts. This is where Tupac met his life-long friend and fellow star Jada Pinket. He also wrote his first rap lyrics and performed under the name of MC New York. June 1988 -Tupac is forced to leave school in Baltimore before graduating and move with his mother to Marin City,California. August 1988 -Tupac moved out of his mother's home and is soon selling drugs. September 1988 -Tupac's stepfather, Mutulu Shakur is sentenced to 60 years in prison for his involvement in a 1981 armoredcar robbery. 1989 -Tupac starts a short lived rap group called Strictly Dope, with his friend Ray Luv. 1989 -Tupac becomes chairman of The New African Panthers, an organization of black youth determined to honor the goals of the original Panthers without duplicating their mistakes. Early 1990 -Tupac joins rap group Digital Underground as a dancer and as a rapper. January 1991 -Tupac made his recording debut with the rap group Digital Underground's "This is an EP Release" song entitled, "Same Song". November 12 1991 -Tupac's first solo album entitled,"2Pacalypse Now," is released and goes gold launching his recording career. December 1991 -Tupac files a $10 Million lawsuit against Oakland police for alleged brutality following an arrest for jaywalking. They probably didn't take a likeing to his name. January 17, 1992 -Tupac makes his big screen debut in the film "juice" portraying the character Bishop. April 1992 -Ronald Ray Howard,19 shoots a Texas trooper and Howard's Attorney claims that Howard was incited by Tupac's album "2pacalypse Now" which was in his tape deck at the time. August 22 1992 -Tupac has an altercation with old acquaintances in Marin City which results in the death of a 6-year old bystander and the arrest of Tupac's half brother, Maurice Harding, who was eventually released due to lack of evidence. February 1993 -Tupac released his second solo album entitled, "Strictly for my N.I.G.G.A.Z," which eventually went plantinum, surpassing the sales of his first album. March 13,1993 -Tupac got into a fight with a limo driver who accused Tupac of using drugs in his car. Tupac was arrested but the charges were eventually dropped. April 1993 -Tupac was arrested again. This time for taking a swing with a baseball bat at a local rapper during a concert. He was sentenced to serve 10 days in prison. July 23,1993 -John Singleton's "Poetic Justice" was released, in which Tupac plays Lucky, a young postal worker, alongside Janet Jackson. (This is a Great movie) October 31,1993 -Tupac is arrested for allegedly shooting at 2 off-duty Atlanta police officers who were allegedly harassing black motorists. The charges were dropped. November 18, 1993 -A 19 year old women accuses Tupac of sexual assault. March 10, 1994 -Tupac begins serving a 15 day prison sentence for punching director Allen Hughes after he was dropped from the motion picture "Menace II Society." March 23,1994 -Tupac appears in the movie,"Above the Rim,"where he plays a troubled drug dealer. The soundtrack which features the song, "Pour Out A Little Liquor," recorded by Thug Life, sells over 2 million copies. September 7,1994 -2 Milwaukee teens murder a police officer and say Tupac's song "Souldjah's Story" was their inspiration. November 1994 -Tupac's sexual assualt trial opens. November 30,1994 -While entering the lobby of the Quad Recording Studios in Times Square, NYC, Tupac was shot 5 times and robbed of jewels and cash estimated to be worth over $50,000. November 31,1994 -Tupac is acquitted of sodomy and weapons charges but found quilty of sexual abuse. February 14,1995 -Tupac begins serving his 18 month to 4 and a half year sentence in NY's Rikers Island penitentiary. April 1,1995 -Tupac's third album,"Me against the World,"debuts at No.1 on Billboard's pop chart fueled by his single, "Dear Mama."The album goes double plantinum in 7 months. May 1995 -Tupac marries longtime girlfriend Keisha Morris. October 1995 -Death Row Records CEO Marion "Suge" Knight posts $1.4 million bail to get Tupac out of jail. Tupac immediately flies to Los Angeles to sign a record contract with Death Row and begins work on his fourth solo album"All Eyez On Me". February 1996 -Stories of Tupac's alleged affair with Faith Evans (Rapper Biggie Smalls wife) goes public. Faith denies the stories. February 13,1996 -Tupac's Death Row debut,"All Eyez On Me,"becomes raps first double cd to be released. April 25,1996 -"All Eyez On Me" goes quintiple platinum. May 1996 -Tupac and Snoop Doggie Dogg release "2 of Americaz Most Wanted." In the video caricatures of Biggie Smalls and Sean "Puffy" Combs are punished for setting up Tupac's November 30th shooting. June 4,1996 -Death Row releases Tupac's "Hit Em Up" single which is brutal diatribe against Biggie Smalls, Bad Boy, Mobb Deep, and other corny sounding artists. Mid 1996 -Tupac works on a film as a detective for Orions's Urban crime thriller"Gang Related." September 4,1996 -Tupac returns to NY for the MTV Music Video Awards Show in which he gets into a scuffle. September 7,1996 -Tupac, Suge Knight, and other friends leave the Mike Tyson/Bruce Seldon fight in Las Vegas in Knight's car. Tupac and his friends are later involved in a physical altercation with a man near the hotel's Grand Garden. Afterwards Knight was stopped by police for playing his car stereo too loud and for not having license plates on his rented vehicle. He was not cited and was released a few minutes later. Within a few minutes Tupac is standing through the roof of the rented BMW 750 sedan traveling eastbound on Flamingo Road when he is shot four times in the chest(for some reason he wasn't wearing his bullet proof vest)and Knight's head is grazed by shrapnel. They turn the car around and head for the hospital when they are stopped in traffic. Police catch up with them. Tupac and Knight are taken to University Medical Center. Tupac undergoes his first of three surgeries immediately. September 8,1996 -Knight is released from the hospital. At 6:20p.m. Tupac undergoes his 2nd operation. September 11,1996 -Knight, accompanied by his attorneys speak, with Metro Police for about and hour. September 13,1996 -Tupac Amaru Shakur dies from his gun shot wounds at 4:03p.m. Tupac never got to see some of the work he did, released after his death were the movies,"Bullet,""Gridlock'ed,"and "Gang Related." Right after he died his last album came out, as his alias,"Makaveli."
