I walk the trail
My own straight path
Always walking the straight line
Always moving
Dealing with whatever comes my way
Never stopping
Behind me
The trail disappears into a golden sunset on the horizon
And ahead
Pitch blackness
The range of my eyesight reaching only a few feet in front of me
Like headlights on the road at night
That’s okay by me
I’ll just keep walking
Running headlong into what lies ahead
Whatever it may be
Let it come
I can take it
All these people
At work
On the street
At the supermarket
Everywhere
They watch me like hawks
Staring as if I’m from another planet
Doesn’t bother me
I just keep on going
Minding my business
Walking my trail
Going wherever it takes me
Not talking to anyone
I have nothing to say
Nothing they’d want to hear, anyway
They’ll talk and talk but say nothing
Me
I just walk on by
On well-worn soles
They may think I’m an asshole
They may think I’m God
Doesn’t matter a whole lot to me
Because I’m walking the trail
My own trail
Keeping the cobwebs out of my head
Keeping their bullshit from bringing me down
Keeping them from crossing my path
Don’t even think about crossing my path
Without expressed, written consent
Or there’ll be consequences and repercussions
Unless you’re going my way
Are you gonna go my way?
If not
Don’t deviate and stray from your path
You might get lost and never find your way back again
And we can’t have that now, can we?
Just stick to your trail
And I’ll stick to mine
And we’ll all be just fine
I’ll walk my line
