There is not much known about the legends behind the adventure of Paladin's Quest, but the little that is known can be read here. So read on, and see if you can uncover some of the mysteries of Lennus.
Raiga, the Land of the Heavens
It is told in tales that in the skies above the world of Lennus, there lies the land of Raiga. Raiga is a magical realm that is bound together by the eight Spirits: Fire, Earth, Heart, Wind (or Air), Light, Sky, Water, and Time (or Sphere). It is said that in the land of Raiga, evil and darkness are entirely unknown, save to the Immortals who know all. The realm is populated by slender, graceful, intelligent beings who are born with the ability to control the Spirits at will; and these mortals are ruled by the Immortals who see all and know all. Nothing is known for certain about Raiga's history, or exactly when the Immortals decided to come to Lennus and bring order and prosperity to its people.
The Coming of the Great Ones and the Immortals
For many thousands of years, Lennus was an untamed world, and its people were as savages in the wild; fearing fire and other forces of nature, fighting each other, and often plagued by sickness. The earliest recorded event of these primal tribes was the day when a strangely beautiful comet, which had been slowly falling for weeks, finally hit the surface of Lennus near its equator, on the northern continent which is now called Naskuot. The people were somehow drawn to this spot and made great journeys across the land to behold this strange thing which fell from the sky. There they first beheld the Immortals of Raiga; and the Great Ones Kormu, Sophie, and Gabnid, who were three people of Raiga renowned for the miracles they had wrought in their homeland. The people of Lennus were glad at what they had found, and hailed the Immortals as gods, and the three Great Ones looked upon them and smiled. The Immortals stayed where they had landed and made their thrones, so that they could observe everything in the lands and think about the unfolding of the world; and the Great Ones set to work on their task, to travel Lennus and bring peace and prosperity. Kormu it was who first taught them perserverance, the ability to hunt animals, and to cope with and overcome fears of the unknown. Sophie calmed the people's hearts, taught them peace, and taught them how to love one another. The great Gabnid gave them the gifts of knowledge and wisdom, and it was he who brought the magical power of the Spirits to Lennus and founded the art of spiritualism, the abilty to use magic. The Great Ones labored hard and long over the years, instructing and protecting the people of Lennus and helped them shape their world, before they mysteriously disappeared from the face of Lennus, 10,000 years ago. The memories of their deeds live on; many statues stand all over Naskuot today, as constant reminders of the wonders wrought by the ancient visitors from Raiga:
Kormu and the Dragon
Many were the stories of the heroic deeds of Kormu, most of which have been forgotten over the centuries, but the most memorable to the people of Lennus is the story of Kormu and the terrible dragon Strabo. No one has ever known where the dragon came from, nor what purpose drove him on. Strabo flew about the lands bringing death and destruction, burning down villages and eating people. Some say that he even flew as far south as Saskuot, and caused the utter destruction of the once prosperous Karon town. Then, the hero Kormu appeared, armed with helm, armor and sword. Kormu managed to climb on Strabo when he swooped down low, and raising his sword high in the air, he plunged it into Strabo's back with all his might, sinking it to the hilt. A deafening cry from the evil dragon filled the air as he began his melancholy descent to the earth, with Kormu hanging on for dear life. Strabo finally crashed down into the hills northwest of the place where Lagon town now stands in Naskuot, or so it is said. Even today, people from all over Lennus come to see the great mountain peak northwest of Lagon, which is named Dragon Mountain. Some say that the mountain itself is really the gigantic form of the sleeping dragon, and that the warm breeze which flows from the mountain is Strabo's breath. It has also been told that the sword of Kormu is buried somewhere on the mountain, but no one has ever attempted the climb. As for the helm and armor of Kormu, those consecrated items are to this day kept under guard at a temple in Saskuot and at the Throne of the Immortals, respectively.
The Great Disaster
Legends tell of a high civilization that stood south of Oldo Bay in Naskuot, where the Magic School and the town of Ratsurk now stand. The inhabitants of this grand city thrived and prospered from the wisdom of the great Gabnid; they built grand towers, complex machinery and many other wonders that helped them in their daily business and in their lives. But perhaps the city had become too great for its own sake; for it came to pass that one day, the ancient metropolis mysteriously disappeared, destroyed by some unknown horror. Was it the doing of the Immortals, or was it just the anger of Lennus? Even today, no one has been able to explain what happened.
The Underground Buildings
Though it is known to very few folk of Lennus, one of the biggest and most baffling mysteries of the ancient times is that of the vast network of buildings said to have been underground, beneath the surface of Lennus. All that is told of these Buildings are only mere rumors... some say that they were there before recorded history, long before the Immortals of Raiga arrived on Lennus; some say that they were built by the great Gabnid for the purpose of studying Lennusian life forms; some have even said that laboratories hidden somewhere in the land Hemisphere are doorways to these underground Buildings, where one can even travel back into time.
It is hard to say for certain who made these structures, or what their purpose was (or is), if they even exist, but the rumors that have floated around for thousands of years certainly make them noteworthy in the great annals of Lennus.
