~Wilbur's Page~

I am not a cat person. Or I should say I wasn't a cat person until July 9th 2002 when Wilbur came into my life.

My son and I were out in the garden and he went to get something out of the garage. He came back to say we had a problem, in fact we had six problems. He had found 6 wobbly legged kittens roaming over our ramp, under our ramp and in our garage.

A wild momma cat had had babies in our garage and her babies had decided to take a romp outside. We figured they were about 4 weeks old at the time.

After 2 1/2 hrs of son chasing them he finally got the last one, the runt into the box. That was Wilbur.

We gave them some milk as they were very thirsty and hoped that momma would come back.

Wilbur is the orange tabby in the front of the box all by himself, he was the smallest and was very skinny.

A few hours later she did come back and took all but the runt out of the box. The poor thing started to cry because he was allby himself and the others were once again in the back of the garage hiding.

So we decided he'd be warmer if he was able to go and join his siblings so we let him out of his box, but momma took the others and left him. He meowed for hours and I thought surely momma would come back for him. But after five hours and meowing and no momma I went out to see if I could catch him. He would always run to the back of the garage which was covered in junk and it took 3 times before he realized that I just wanted to help him, though at the time I was more scared of him than he was of me. *S*

Finally after 1 a.m. he didn't run away when I approached him, he just meowed and looked at me and let me pick him up and I brought him into the house. And that was the beginning of me becoming a cat person.

I must say that our 2 dogs were not sure what the heck this tiny thing was, that was for sure..*L*

This is a picture of one of Wilbur's brother in my son's hand. Wilbur wasn't this big.

This is a picture taken July 24th of Glenna, who is a Seeing Eye dog making friends with the kitten we now called Wilbur as he had been to the vets and we knew he was a he..*L* As you can see he has no fear at all of dogs.

Our little dog Bijoux had other ideas about making friends with Wilbur. Bijoux is a very aggressive dog and doesn't like to share anything. He will go after Glenna is she gets too close to his food, so we had to be very careful with the introduction of Wilbur.

Bijoux was kept muzzled and tied up whenever Wilbur was around and even that didn't stop Bijoux from trying to bite Wilbur if he got too close. I kept him tied for almost 2 weeks and muzzled getting him use to the kitten.

Then I let him off the leash, but still muzzled and watched him very closely. I would always tell Bijoux if he was nice to the kitten he would get a cookie, he is a pig when it comes to cookies, so this worked out very well.

Here he is watching Wilbur play and you can see he has a muzzle on.

The next step was to put Bijoux back on the leash, but without the muzzle and when he let the kitten go by without growling or lunging at him he would get a cookie.

After about 4 weeks Bijoux was unmuzzled and let off the leash and he did very well with the kitten. They played and Bijoux learned how to use his paws to play with Wilbur and his chin to push at Wilbur to get him to play.

Here he is playing with Wilbur August 30th, they would do this for hours.

This is Wilbur looking innocent when asked "what ya doing Willie?....ummm nothing"

Wilbur got his first needle around August 16th. When he came home from the vet Bijoux was quite concerned as his buddy was doing a lot of sleeping

**********

This was taken August 29th when Wilbur, aka Willie, used the porch as a play area. He always loved to jump up on the windwill and watch us work in the rose garden. He is 12 weeks.

*********

Here he is saying...."HEY MOM!...it's not fair you get to go outside and I don't!"

*L*

**********

Darn it! I know she hid the door around here somewhere..

*L*

**********

He just loves to watch me and my son from the porch working out in the gardens.

Bijoux is very possessive of his things, his food etc. He will even will go after Glenna if she walks by his dish when he thinks she shouldn't. So I was absolutely amazed when he let Wilbur eat out of his dish! This pictures was taken August 30th, now Wilbur is almost as tall as Bijoux.

This was taken Sept 14th on the cat tree son and I made for Wilbur, here he thinks he is the king of his castle...

This is Wilbur, he is 17 weeks, and Bijoux October 4th, sleeping after a play period. Wilbur is Don't they just look like little angels?

Bijoux is saying if you tell my friends I'm sleeping with the enemy I will never forgive you!
