BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA

BSA Troop 413
Death Valley Trip
January 2003

After leaving Hanford, Calif. friday night we traveled to overnight at Jawbone Canyon (North of Mojave). The Troop rose early the next day to trave further to Death Valley!

Camp was at the campground just south of Furnace Creek

Devil's Golf Course

Bad Water _ The lowest spot in the United States

Dinner the first night in Death Valley was rattlesnake stew (suprising how snake tastes like chicken!?)....

... it was cooked in Dutch ovens and was a big hit!

Campfire time

The sunrise and moon set was wonderful! And the weather was not really cold, notice that Morgan hardly ever wore a coat

Pondering the color palate on artist drive

Salt Creek nature area

The Ubehebe Crater

Never seen this guy before! Couldn't be from OUR Troop!!?!

Sunday morning Worship Service, Richard led the the group.

Chow line at Scotties Castle

The amazing Sand Dunes!

Exploring the carved stone walls in Mosaic Canyon

Webelos from Pack 413

The Troop plus Webelos biding a fond farewell to Death Valley! (sigh!)

The return trip was thwarted by a traffic accident just west of Tehachapi involving 2 big-rigs. There were Slim Jims all over the freeway! Traffic was totally stopped for almost 3 hours. The Troop got to spend some quality time playing on the freeway!
