Tommy Cropper's
Eagle Scout Project

A Community Garden at the Salvation Army facility in Hanford, California.
January, 2006

Railroad ties of various lengths were used to create vegetable gardening areas. Dump truck loads of soil were delivered to the site. Scouts, Scout Leaders, and the Hanford High Wrestling Team were there to spread the soil.

This photo was taken about 11 in the morning, just after the bombshell landed. The announcement that the community garden needed to be in the west side of the lawn area, not the east! This developement came to light when the director of grounds for the Salvation Army arrived. Previously, the project had been designated to be on the east side of the facility. Notice that the railroad ties are all in place and a commercial truck company had delivered several dumptruck loads of soil into the garden units.

Now we had to move it all by had to the west side of the lawn!

So, it was time to move the railroad ties, which were very heavy, to their new positions.

Then it was time to move the soil, by wheel barrow...

...and by truck...

...and the piles of soil never got any smaller...

...then...
... a miracle happened...
...after hearing about our plight...
...and being an ex-Scoutmaster himself...
...Joe Robinson arrived on the scene...
...with his...
...tractor...

...and Saved The Day!!!

In just a couple of hours everything was perfectly positioned in the new location!

Pizza and drinks had been arranged by Tommy to provide energy to the work crew.

As the sun faded, the final touches were completed!

The Community Garden was ready to be a new focal point of the Hanford Salvation Army!
