BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA

BSA Troop 413
Klondike at Shaver Lake
Snow Expedition
February, 2004

Saturday morning. After an early departure from Hanford and chains required before Shaver Lake, Troop 413 starts its 1.5 mile trek to the location of the Klondike at Camp Chawanakee!

After arriving at the Klondike base camp we attended the town meeting prior to lunch.

Lunch.....

Klondike Events....
One of the popular events was the Snow Cannon event!
Here compressed air is used to propel an ice ball bullet at a target. Here Sarg (Jared E.) aims, Jared R. pumps, and Matt & Peter are spotters as the cannon fires a ice ball (fashioned by LeRoy) at a cutout bear target.[notice the lucky photo even captured the blast of compressed air leaving the cannon]

With the first shot the bear is dropped by a shot to the hindquarters! What team work!

Another event was Driving Rail Spikes at China Camp.

Our camp recieved a surprise visit from District Executive Michael Canton. Here with John Aldous and John MacDonald.

A warming fire was a popular spot after the events.

Matt was incharge of cooking stew for dinner. It was very popular.

Fires.....
If you have never sat around a fire in the snow...
You have really missed somthing special.

Snow was was lightly falling during the evening..

A new day begins after a night of light snow. About 3" fell during the night!

Early risers enjoying hot oatmeal and the snowy morning.

Here is a photo that will Live in INFAMY!
Two Scouts decided to leave their boots, gloves, and packs outside in the snow overnite!!!

Definately a lack of planning!
Sunday morning departure...
We pulled the sled thru a light snowfall back to the highway where the cars were parked. A beautiful end to a great trip!

Yes... We all accumulated some snow on the trip out!
