Sugar and Spice

They're saucy, they're sassy, they've taken Popsville by storm - but how do the Spice Girls get a snog? We grabbed the feisty fivesome and made them confess...

WHAT SORT OF BOYS DO YOU LIKE?
Emma: Pretty boys. I like 'em a bit muscley - not too big, just cut nicely with big shoulders and a little waist. I'm a little bit fussy, aren't I?
Mel C: Physically, I like men with dark eyes. I'm not too keen on blonds and I definitely wouldn't go out with a redhead - I'm not into the Chris Evans look.
Geri: I like someone who's quite fun and has a good sense of humour. I don't really have a set physical type, I just go for a guy who's got that certain sparkle in his eyes.
Victoria: Everyone expects me to like someone with a really clean-cut image, but actually I like the laddish type. But if he's gonna look grunge, he's got to look it in a nice way. He's got to be sweet-smelling!
Mel B: I like someone who's quiet and calm, who only lets his personality out when we're alone. And he's got to be very independant and grown-up. Obviously I can't be with somebody who's like me 'cause we'd clash and it'd be a nightmare!

SO WHO'S YOUR ULTIMATE MAN?
Emma: George Clooney, 'cause he's very manly, but he's also really cute looking.
Mel C: Jamie Redknapp. He's gooooorgeous!
Geri: I think Antonio Banderas is sexy...
Victoria: I wouldn't say no to a Noel Gallagher type! I like a bit of a bad boy.
Mel B: Will Smith. Or Paul Nicholls seems very sweet. And I wouldn't mind a date with the guy from the Prodigy. Haaaaa!

HOW DO YOU ALL FLIRT?
Emma: We all flirt in different ways. I do it in quite a cutesy way. I might make innuendoes and have a laugh, but I'm not an in-yer face sort of girl. I just offer them sweets and that sort of thing. I'm a girlie flirt!
Mel C: I'm really, really shy if I like someone, so I just look at them. I think someone can tell you like them by the way you look at them. It's all down to eye contact.
Geri: I'm quite a flirty person, believe it or not (!), but if I fancy someome I'm not flirty at all. I get all shy. Then again, it all depends on how I'm feeling that day. Sometimes if I like someone I just come out and say it! Sometimes you've just got to!
Victoria: If I don't like someone then I can flirt really easily, but I go the opposite way when I like them. I let guys make the first move because I'm always paranoid that they don't like me.
Mel B: Well, I certainly don't pout or flutter my eyelids or anything like that. I'm more direct, me. I'm like, "I fancy you" and that's it. And it works!

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN A BLOKE FANCIES YOU?
Emma: If he really flatters me, and acts keen, I know.
Mel C: You can just sense it, can't yer? Just in the way he looks at me and talks to me.
Geri: When two people fancy each other, you don't have to say it, you can both pick up the vibe. But then, sometimes I can get it wrong, completely wrong!
Victoria: Most times I'd just wait for his mates to tell me, rather than make myself look stupid when I find out he's not keen! There is a certain somebody out there, I'm not saying who he is, but I'm wondering if he does like me, because I like him. He knows who he is!
Mel B: I don't know when someone fancies me. I just chance it. I do the work instead of waiting for him to come up to me. I'm a modern girl. You've got to be these days!

WHAT WOULD PUT YOU OFF A BLOKE?
Emma: I hate it when a bloke shows off to his mates and pretends not to care about you. I'm not too keen on bad breath either!
Mel C: I definitely don't like hairy backs. And I don't like it when lads are dead cocky.
Geri: I hate a bloke whose breath smells. But I wouldn't chuck him, I'd just offer him a mint.
Victoria: I hate guys who name-drop. And although I like a naughty boy, I don't like him to be too outspoken.
Mel B: Blokes who try to be something they're not really put me off.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF HE CAME ON TOO STRONG?
Emma: Oh I's say, "Back off!" definitely. Give him a good slap. Spicey girls do what they want to do, not what their boyfriends want them to.
Mel C: I'd tell him straight away. And if he threatened to dump me, I'd say, "Go on then, I'm better off without you". Even if you're gonna go home and cry afterwards, you've got to be responsible; be strong.
Geri: I remember when I was about 14, I'd just think, "Oooh, maybe he'd like me more if I let him get further". I was a late starter - I looked about 8 when I was 14 - and all my friends were getting off with lads, so I just thought that guys would like me more if I let them do what they wanted. But in fact that cliched thing of playing hard to get really does work. I swear!
Victoria: I'd just tell 'em to piss off, basically. Some girls think, "Oh, I should be doing this 'cause my mates are doing it," or, "He;ll leave me if I don't," but if you give in you're just being used, aren't you?
Mel B: I'd probably grab him by the neck and say, "Back off, buddy!" Nobody messes with me, no way!

WHAT'S THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A GIRL?
Emma: Wearing nice clothes and spending ages getting ready to go out.
Mel C: The best thing about being a girl nowadays is that you can do lads' stuff too, and that's cool.
Geri: I think you can get away with a lot more, being a girl. We've got the best of both worlds now. We can get in touch with our masculine side and still keep our femininity.
Victoria: If you're looking rough you can put some make-up on and nine times out of ten you can cover up the fact that you feel totally crap!
Mel B: Being really free with our emotions, which is what us girls are really good at.

HOW DO YOU LIKE TO BE SNOGGED?
Emma: I like big soft kisses on the lips. I don't like aggressive "washing machine" snogs which seem to suck you in.
Mel C: I like kissy-kissy snogs. I don't like too much tongue action or rapid head movement!
Geri: I don't like it when someone rams their tongue down my throat. I prefer it when it's a nice full-on, mouth-closed, full-hearted kiss.
Victoria: Really gently and sensually. And I like a snog to take a long time. I like someone to make you feel really special and give you lots of little kisses first, leading up to a big snog.
Mel B: Ooh I like it when a guy wraps his tongue right round me tonsils. I like a good tongue sarnie, me!
