What is Cadets?

Cadets is a voluntary youth organisation which offers young people challenging opportunities on evenings and weekends.

The Australian Army Cadet Corp is an Army sponsored Australia wide organisation for males and females 13 to 17 years of age.

Each unit is staffed by Officers and Instructors of Cadets who in most cases have either military or cadet skills. As Cadets, you become a valued member of a team which will develop your confidence, pride and self discipline as well as learning military skills such as man-management, leadership, survival, navigation, first aid and parade ground drill.
These skills and qualities are real assets while studying and when you begin your full time career.

It is these qualities you learn as a cadet that set you apart in the community.

The aim of cadets is:

"by predominantly voluntary effort, to better equip young people for community life by fostering initiative, leadership, discipline and loyalty through training programmes which are also designed to stimulate and interest in the Services"

Hansard No 11, 1976
