Jennifer and Kaitlin have been best friends since the first grade, which is a long time considering they are in eighth grade now. This is the story of how these two lucky teenage girls met Nick Carter, AJ McLean, Kevin Richardson, Howie Dorough and Brian Littrell, better known as the Backstreet Boys. Here is how Kaitlin and Jennifer met them!

It all started one hot, summer day in San Francisco, California. It was August 11th, 1998. Kaitlin and Jennifer decided to walk the mile to McDonald's for lunch. They got to McDonald's at around 12:15pm and ordered their lunch. After the girls got the food they ordered, the two of them went to sit down at a table between the door and the counter. About ten minutes after Jennifer and Kaitlin sat down a group of people came in. There were five guys that looked like they were in their early 20's, a younger boy around ten or eleven and one other woman. The five guys were all wearing baseball caps pulled down slightly over their eyes. The younger boy had on a baseball cap too, but it wasn't pulled down over his eyes. The guys with their hats like that seemed weird to Kaitlin and Jennifer, so being two teenage girls, they started talking about the group of people.

"Kaitlin, did you see those guys?" Jennifer asked her.
"Yes, those hats look a little weird pulled down that far," she answered.
"Yeah, I agree with you there!! I hope they don't hear us saying anything."
"Yeah, me too, but if they do, oh well," Kaitlin said laughing. The two talked a little more about the five guys and the other two people with them.

Meanwhile, the group of people were ordering their lunches. After the group ordered their food they all went and sat down about three tables away from Jennifer and Kaitlin. After the group that came in sat down and ate lunch they got up to leave, but the seven people didn't leave right away. They all started walking over to where Kaitlin and Jennifer were sitting and talking quietly.

"So, you think our hats pulled down this far looks weird," said one of the five guys. This guy was around six foot, and he had blue eyes. He was wearing Nike basketball shoes, blue   jeans, a Nike T-shirt and of course, a Nike hat.

"Oh no, they heard us," Kaitlin said to her friend under her breath.
"Um, hi. So you heard us talking about you guys?" Jennifer politely asked them.
"Yes," they all answered. "Sorry, but we just thought it looked a little weird. Why do you have them pulled down so far anyway? If you don't mind me asking," Jennifer said to them.

"It's ok, but we have a VERY good reason for it," said a different guy then the one who had talked to them first. The second guy was about 5'7" and was wearing black sandals, jeans and a Tommy Hillfiger T-shirt.

"That reason would be what?" asked Kaitlin curiously.
"Ok, well do you guys know this music group of five guys from Florida?" asked the same guy.
"Yes, but which one? ‘N Sync, Backstreet Boys?" Jennifer asked them.
"I meant the Backstreet Boys," he said.
"Oh, yes, we know them! We love them. Those guys are really good looking," Jennifer and Kaitlin both said to them.
"I have over 100 pictures of them in my bedroom. I wish I could go to their concert tonight, but it was sold out before I could get tickets," Kaitlin told him.

"Come on, Brian, just tell them who you guys are already," said the younger boy that was with them.
"Did you just say his name was Brian?" Jennifer curiously asked the boy. Who was about four foot nine inches, with blue eyes. He looked like the first guy that had talked to the girls.

"Yes I did. My name is Aaron. These other guys are Nick (the first one to say something to Jennifer and Kaitlin), Kevin, Howie and AJ. You know, the Backstreet boys," said Aaron.
"Thanks a lot, Airboy," Nick said to Aaron.
"Oh my gosh! Did I hear you right? Nick, Brian, Kevin, AJ, Howie, and Aaron?" Kaitlin asked them.
"Yes, you heard him right. We are the Backstreet Boys and this is Nick's little brother, Aaron. Oh yeah, this is my mom, Denise," AJ told them. Denise is the boys' publicist.

"Oh my gosh! I don't know what to say. I love you guys so much! I have your United States CD and the "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" single, since I have the earlier version of the CD," Jennifer said in a rush. "Also, I have the All Access Video and the Backstreet Stories video. I plan on getting the live in concert video too."
"That's cool. Thanks for all your support," Howie said to her.

"Hey what about my CD?" Aaron asked her.
"Aaron, be nice to her. She's just a little shocked of who all of us are," Nick told his younger brother.
"Ok, sorry, Nicky. I was just wondering if she listens to me too, but you only care about you guys," Aaron told him.
"Sorry buddy, but I don't just care about the Backstreet Boys, I care about you and your career too," Nick said. "After all, you are my little brother."
"So what about Aaron's CD?" Brian asked again so that Nick and Aaron would be quiet.
"I have his CD," Kaitlin said. "But Jennifer doesn't. She listens to mine instead of getting her own."
"Cool," said Aaron.
"Guys, we better get going," Denise told them.

"Ok, do you girls want to come with us to our sound check?" Kevin asked.
"Kev, don't you care what the rest of us think?" Nick asked.
"Well, actually no, but to keep you quiet sure. So what do you guys think?" Kevin said.
"I say go for it," Aaron said butting in. The rest of the guys agreed to let them come.

"We would love to come, but do you have a phone we could use to call our parents and tell them where we will be?" Jennifer asked them.
"Of course, here you can use my cell phone and your friend can use AJ's," Howie told her.
"Back up a second, who said she could use MY phone?" AJ said. "Just joking! Of course you can use my phone."
"Ok, thank you so much! By the way, my name is Jennifer, and this is Kaitlin," Jennifer told Howie.
"Ok girls, make it quick. We are running late already," Denise said to them. This is usual for her, since the guys are always late.
"Yep," the girls answered. They both called home and left a message on their answering machines telling their parents where they were going.

"Ok, let's go," Kaitlin said when she was done calling home.
