Cross Up Your Workout
By Sarah Lorge Butler

Excerpt:

From swimming to yoga, lifting weights to kickboxing, every activity has its advantages. [...] Even martial arts can help. Glen Doyle, a Toronto-based kung fu expert, started training Canadian Olympic figure skater Elvis Stojko more than 10 years ago. "We worked on explosive inward movements, basically uppercuts and hooks turning inward," Doyle says,"and Elvis started to tighten quicker in the air." With that extra half revolution Stojko was soon landing his quadruple jumps. Now Doyle's kung fu lessons help hockey, soccer, and football players improve their explosiveness and lateral movement.
