TGSF schedules periodic seminars on various topics of interest to the members. The topic today was photography, specifically taking self-portraits. I first prepared myself, selecting a green and black herringbone skirt, a green and grey sweater, my black and white herringbone jacket to wear. I had found the dark green umbrella that I had been missing, and had to use it all day in the steady rain. I first stopped at a neighborhood coffee shop for a cup of coffee and a muffin before taking a bus to a BART station actually in the other direction from San Francisco, since there are no buses running directly to the nearby BART stations on weekends. I was just in time for a direct train to San Francisco, took it to a downtown San Francisco stop, walked about three blocks to a bus stop, and caught a bus to near the place where the seminar was held.
A local photographer presented many of his ideas on equipment selection, film, lighting, and preparing onself to be both model and photographer. I had brought much of my camera equipment with me, using a sports bag that I had bought on an earlier trip. Interestingly, only she, I, and our presendent were "dressed" for the occasion; I actually saw some of our members in "drab" for the first time. After the presentation, I went for a late lunch with a friend from the group.
There was also a demonstration scheduled for 6:15 p.m.., to coincide with the showing of a film about a transgendered person who had been murdered. My friend and I rode on bus, then transfered to an underground streetcar to go to the location of the demonstration. Despite the rain, many people were there, including other members of our group and other organizations. I and several other people took some pictures there. We stood on the sidewalk outside the theater, with candles lit and signs protesting the hatred and violence, and identifying many of the people who had been murdered.
After the demonstration, I decided not to go to the movie, but instead went with the friend who had given me a ride from the Cotillion, who had brought the umbrella that I had left in her car. Since then, not only had I purchased another umbrella, but had found the one that I had misplaced, so I ended up the day with three umbrellas! We went to restaurant that had recently reopened under a new name, at the same location as several of our group's earlier meetings. She had dinner there, while I only had a New York Cheesecake and coffee. The food and service were very good. She then drove me to a BART station, and I caught the first of two trains to the station nearest my home. I then made the 20-minute walk home from there.
