MOURN DEATH OF MRS. MacPHERSON AT SUNNY BRAE
Sunny Brae - The death of MRS. MATTHEW MacPHERSON, a former resident of
Stellarton,
occured May 29 at the home of her son, FREEMAN SMITH, Sunny
Brae,
following several months of failing health.
Mrs. MacPherson was the only daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. RONALD
MacDONALD, Sandy Cove , Guys.Co.,
and was 82 years of age.
She was first married to the late GEORGE SMITH
and spent the early part
of her life in Smithfield, Guys. Co.
After his death she came to Stellarton
where she married
the late Matthew MacPherson, who predeceased her 12 years
ago.
Being of a friendly nature, she had a wide circle of friends and
commented herself
to the young to young and old, in whose activities she was
always warmly interested.
By the first marriage she is survived by four daughters,
ALMA(Mrs.Cecil
King),Oxford; ANNIE(Mrs.Roy Roache),
Hamilton,Ont., HATTIE(Mrs.William
Craig),Bangor, Maine;
SADIE(Mrs. George Mitchell), Goldenville; and two
sons, FREEMAN,
Sunny Brae; and PERCY, Stellarton. Eighteen grandchildren
and
thirty-eight great grandchildren also survive.
A daughter SUZZIE(Mrs. Gordon
Smith)and two sons
WELLINGTON and CHARLIE predeceased her.
The funeral, which was largely attended, was held from the home
of her
son Freeman Smith, May 31,
with Rev.George Malcolm, pastor of the
Presbyterian Church, Sunny Brae,
officiating, taking his text from 1
Corinthians 15:20
assisted by Rev.I.D. Raymer, Pentecostal Church, New
Glasgow.
Music was in charge of Miss CHARLOTTE SANGSTER.
Hymns sung were"Rock Of
Ages","Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross",
"The Lord's My Shepherd" and a solo by
Mrs. MOORE, "Only A Shadow".
The pall bearers were Earle Smith, Ernie Taylor, Grant MacDonald,
Earl
MacDonald, Billy Morrison and Bruce McKean.
Interment took place at Smithfield where she was placed
beside her first
husband, with Miss B. Hallowell,
deaconess of the Presbyterian Church,
Caledonia, conducting the burial service.
A large number of friends who were unable to attend
the service at the
home gathered at the graveside.
There were many floral tributes.
