MRS. ALEX SUTHERLAND,
Denver, Guys. Co.

On May 20th, 1928, Mrs. Mary Eliza Archibald, widow of the late Alexander Sutherland, passed away at her home Denver, Guysboro Co., N.S.
She was born Feby. 7th, 1839, and was nearing her 90th year.
Her husband predeceased her 16 years ago, on Sept. 26, 1912.
On March 25, 1908, they had their jubilee, when their daughter Anna (Mrs. John McDonald) and her husband came from Pasadena to attend it, but as there was small pox in the vicinity no gathering was permitted.
Mrs. Alex Sutherland was a daughter of Mr. Henry Archibald, who for many years was a respected and efficient Elder of the Glenelg congregation.
He had eleven of a family of whom the following are dead: -
Samuel Thomas,
Annabell (Mrs. Angus McLean),
Almira (Mrs. Donald McInnis),
Alexander,
Catherine Ellen (Mrs. Alex.Gunn).
The following are living to mourn the departure of a dear sister:-
Margaret Jane, (Mrs. Henry Taylor),
Howard,
Charlotte (Mrs. Flick),
Robert McKenzie, and
Caroline Gordon (Mrs. Peter Jordan).
Mrs. Sutherland had eleven of a family;
These have passed away;
Catherine Margaret (Mrs. William McKeen);
Henry C., drowned at Duncan Lake, B.C.;
James D., died of pneumonia at home, Denver, Guys.Co.;
May (Mrs. Daniel McGrath).
The following survive her and mourn the loss of a beloved mother:
Robt., of Ecum Secum, Guys Co.;
Wellington, at the homestead;
Osburn A., of New Boston, New Hampshire;
S. Milton, of Atwater, Cal.;
Anna (Mrs. John McDonald) and Phoebe C. (Mrs. R. Bennet) both of Pasadena, Cal.;
Howard H. of Vancouver, B.C.
Mrs. Sutherland had eleven children, 25 grand children of whom 5 are dead,
36 great-grand children and one great-great grandchild.
Surely and truly a Mother in Israel has fallen.
She shall long be remembered for her sterling qualities of heaad and heart, ever kind and sympathetic, patient in suffering and rejoicing in hope.
The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. J. H. Kirk, when a large number of friends, relatives and neighbors gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to one beloved by all.
