Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today
at St. John's Anglican Church, Truro,
for Jean Carmichael Dunning, 80,
97-B Queen St. Truro, who died Thursday
in Colchester Hospital. Canon Eric Ingraham will officiate.
Cremation will follow.
Burial will be in Canso at a later date.
Born in Hazel Hill, Guysborough County,
she was the daughter of the late John and Jessie (Cook) Dunning.
She was a member of Scotia chapter IODE,
and St. John's Anglican Church, Truro.
She graduated in nursing from the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal,
in 1929 and received a post-graduate degree in administration from McGill University.
She had a varied career in nursing, including public health
with the VON; supervisor of the Izaak Walton Killam Hospital for Children,
Halifax; registrar of the Nurses' Association of Nova Scotia;
assistant director director of nurses, Jewish General Hospital,
Montreal, and Sherbrooke Hospital, Quebec; director of nursing, Lachine General Hospital;
supervisory positions and teacher of nursing at Royal Victoria Hospital;
teacher of nursing at Grace Dart Hospital, Montreal.
She retired from the teaching school of nursing assistance in Charlottetown.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary McDowell, Albany, New York;
Margaret Johnson, Coldbrook, King's County;
several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by a brother, Bill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made
to the Parkinson Foundation, Middleton, or any charity.
