Springville - Orris Stephen Cook, of this community,
died unexpectantly
Wednesday at his home.
He was born at Issac's Harbour, 77 years ago,
a son
of the late Russell and Laurailla (Langley) Cook.
Mr. Cook was a retired carpenter.
He was a First World War veteran and
enlisted as a member of
the 78th Pictou Highlanders, 15th Battalion,
later
transferring to the 17th Battalion of the 48th Toronto Highlanders.
He was
wounded a few times, last at Vimy Ridge.
He was sent home as an invalid.
He
was a member of Branch 34 Royal Canadian Legion
and a former member of
Branch 88 in Timmins, Ontario.
Long interested in the Boy Scout movement
working in this area was one of
the highlights of his life
and he was a Scoutmaster for close to 20 years
and was always interested and working for that movement
taking a particular
interest in the work at the Scout Camp at Grant's Lake.
He is survived by his wife, the former Florence Davidson,
and a son
Chester, London, Ont; by a former marriage
and by one grandchild. Also by
four brothers,
Byron, Trenton; Spurgeon, Churchville; Roland, Flushing,
N.Y.;
Hugh, Springville, two sisters, Daisy (Mrs.Clarence MacDonald),
Edith (Mrs. Jack Robertson), both of Churchville.
He was predeceased by a sister Flo in infancy
and two brothers, Brenton
and Edward.
The remains are resting at the H.W. Angus Funeral Parlor, King St.,
and
the funeral will be held from
the Angus Funeral Chapel on Friday at 3:30pm,
with interment in the Springville cemetery.
The family requests no flowers.
