Lydia Mae Nauffts

NAUFFTS, Lydia Mae – 93, Northwood Manor, Halifax,
died peacefully Monday, April 2, 2007.

Mae was blessed with an innate wit
and the ability to get along with everyone.
She made friends quickly and with persons of all ages.
Mae exhibited love and tenderness to family,
friends and whomever came in contact with her.
The family wishes to express thanks to all
who shared their time to comfort her
and a special thanks to the staff of Northwood.

Mae was born in Gegogan, Guysborough Co.
and was a daughter of the late George H. and Lydia O. (Jack) Croft.

She is survived by daughters,
Helen (Ray) Shanks, Hants Border;
Rose (Alphonse) Casey, Dartmouth; sons, Merle (Shirley), Hazel Hill;
Vernon (Verlie), Ottawa; Ronald, Dartmouth;
several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Mae was the last surviving member of her family,
having been predeceased by sisters,
Laura Nauffts, Ruby Baker, Rose Wagner, Gertrude Hann,
Clara Harding, Hilda Walsh Thorne, Susie, Elsie, Marie and brother Burton.

In her early years, Mae and her husband Douglas travelled the province
under the name of Elite Carnival Shows,
showing motion pictures in many rural communities of Nova Scotia.
In 1943, they purchased the Ideal Theatre in Canso,
which they operated until 1973.
She was an active member of the Anglican Church in Canso and Dartmouth,
and participated in the ACW
at All Saints Church in Canso.
Her services were also recognized by the IODE.

No visiting by request;
a funeral service will be held 2 pm Thursday,
April 5 in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home,
217 Portland St., Dartmouth,
Rev. Janet Hatt officiating.

Interment will be 4 pm Friday, April 6 in All Saints Church Cemetery, Canso,
Rev. Tory Burns officiating.
Family flowers only.
Donations to All Saints Church, Canso,
Northwood Manor, Halifax, or a charity of choice.
