AGED MAN IS FOUND DEAD
Capt. James McConnell Passes Away Suddenly at Port Hilford
SHERBROOKE, July 5 - Capt. James McConnell, of Port Hilford,
was found dead at noon Saturday in a vacant house next to his dwelling, where he had gone to cook food for his fox ranch.
He was eighty three years of age and suffered for years from serious heart affection.
He represented Port Hilford in the municipal council for many years
and was warden of St. Mary's one term.
He introduced black fox farming in the province.
He was formerly engaged in shipping in the Labrador and Newfoundland trade
and was then general and fish merchant.
Latterly he confined himself to fox farming.
He was very prominent in Baptist Church circles and social uplift,
was one of the most prominent Liberals of eastern Nova Scotia and was preventative officer of the customs.
He leaves his wife, sons Judson of Sherbrooke,
Allan of Portland, Maine,
and daughters Mrs. David Reid, of Port Hilford
and Mrs. Evan Lawson of Sherbrooke, now in northern Ontario, to mourn their loss.
The funeral was from the residence, Port Hilford, this afternoon with masonic honors.
