The death occurred early Friday morning,
December 7, 1956 at the Victoria General Hospital,
Halifax, of John W. Reynell of Pictou, N.S.,
following a short illness. He was 60 years of age.
Born in East Sheen, England,
Mr. Reynell emigrated to Canada in 1925.
Before coming to this country, he served on the Palestinian Police Force
and was assistant-manager of a plantation in India.
During the First World War, Mr. Reynell received his wings
while serving as a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy.
When he came to Canada, Mr. Reynell joined the staff
of the Alberta Liquor Board at Lethbridge, and,
being an avid sportsman, played rugger on a team in Calgary.
In September, 1931, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
at Regina. After serving in both the Vancouver and Ottawa
detachments, he was transferred to Sydney
and spent the last twenty years on the force in Nova Scotia,
serving on many detachments in the province.
Upon his retirement in 1952, he joined the staff of
Fergusons Industries in Pictou where he was employed until his death.
After being stationed to Pictou in 1950,
he coached Pictou Academy to one of their finest rugger seasons.
He also took an active part in Boy Scout affairs
in that north shore town for a number of years.
Surviving Mr. Reynell are his wife,
the former Winifred Moulton of Guysborough and one daughter Diane.
Two brothers, Richard and Edward, are living in England.
The remains are resting at Cruikshanks Funeral Home.
They will be transferred to Guysborough
in time for the funeral to be held from Christ Church
on Sunday afternoon. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
