The friends of William Gunn were shocked to hear
of his sudden passing away at Lorne, Pictou County, June 7.
He seemed in his usual health and was busy
about the place until noon when he came to the house
and retired to his room, where shortly afterwards
his daughter, who went to call him, found he had passed away.

Mr. Gunn was born in Pictou County eighty-one years ago,
but in his boyhood removed with his family to Country Harbour.
Here he started in business in general merchandise
and later removed his business to Fisherman's Harbor.

He was elected the first Councillor for Stormont district
at the introduction of the Municipal Council.

He also had a thrilling experience as a young man.
An adventurous sea captain induced him to go on a sealing trip
with him to an isolated part of Anticosti.
A schooner was procured to take them there in the fall
and return for them in the spring,
but was delayed for weeks with heavy ice.
Their provisions giving out they existed for a while
on a diet of flour and water.

The funeral was held in Fisherman's Harbor
and the remains laid beside that of his wife.
Being a mason for more than half a century
he was the oldest member of Queen Lodge No.34 AF and AM.,
Sherbrooke and the funeral was held under the auspices of that body,
many members from Sherbrooke and surrounding districts attending.

He is survived by three children, Mrs. F. Cox,
with whom he resided; Margaret,R.N., New York;
and Frank, of Fisherman's Harbor. He is also survived
by six sisters and one brother, Alex Gunn, Country Harbor.
In religion he was a Presbyterian
and in politics a life long Conservative.

(*His wife was nee Barbara J. Hines)
