Monnie was born in Guysborough on Jul 21, 1916,
the younger of two daughters of Christopher Arnaud Jost
and Hattie Maude (Sinclair).
She graduated from Acadia University in 1937,
and on August 2, 1942, married her college mate,
Gordon Tremaine "Trem" Spurr.
Together they shared his military and civil service career
until his death on February 11, 1982,
and they raised sons, Peter Tremaine and John Christopher.
Along the way, Monnie also had several interesting jobs,
on pre-war Parliament Hill, as assistant to Henry Marshall Tory
in founding Carleton University. and in federal public service security work
about which she would never tell anyone.
Monnie is survived by her sons and their families.
Peter and his wife Mary Anne (Lighthall),
their sons, John Tremaine, Charles Abram and Cameron Heath,
live in Saanich, British Columbia; John and his wife Heather Anne (MacKinnon)
and their children, Rebecca Anne and Christopher Malcolm, live in Orleans.
The family invites friends to visit in the Kelly Funeral Home,
St. Joseph Boulevard, Orleans, Ontario on Tuesday,
March 20, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. or to a service in the chapel
there lead by Reverend Dr. Donald Boyd on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations
to the Elizabeth Bruyere Centre or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The family thanks the staff of the Elizabeth Bruyere Centre and particularly
the people who worked on the Third Floor, who made Monnie's life
as enjoyable as possible for the last 10 years.
