Obituary for ~
Gordon Whidden
Sherbrooke, April 23 ~
The community was saddened on Saturday April 21st,
to hear of the passing of Gordon Whidden,
at his home in Stillwater
at the age of 29 years,
after a long and trying illness.
Born at Stillwater, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Whidden,
he spent almost all his life there,
where he was loved and respected by all who knew him.
His passing at such an early age,
though a blessed relief from suffering,
leaves a vacancy in the heartbroken family
which will long be felt.
Surviving are his parents, his wife, formerly Mildred MacGrath,
a daughter Mary, four brothers;
Maurice, Fred, Basil and Cecil,
and two sisters, Phyllis, married in Halifax
and Ethel at home.
Fred is a Pilot Officer with the R.C.A.F. overseas.
The largely attended funeral was conducted from the home
at 2:30 p.m., Monday with William Reid,
Presbyterian Student Missionary officiating.
Favorite hymns sung were; The Lord's My Shepherd,
The Old Rugged Cross, Sometime We'll Understand,
and at the grave Asleep In Jesus.
Pallbearers were L.D. MacKeen, J.C. Hingley, Arch Hingley,
Roy Rodenhiser, Huntley Lynds and Cecil Smith.
Beautiful floral offering bore testimony
to the love and respect held for the deceased.
Internment was in Waternish Cemetery.
Sympathy is extended to the sorrowing family.
