COOKE, Bertha Laura - 87, Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough, formerly of Isaacs Harbour, Guysborough Co., died December 20, 1998, in the home. Born on Tancook Island, she was a daughter of the late Winton and Odessa (Stevens) Langille. She was an adherent of Isaacs Harbour United Baptist Church. She spent all of her childhood and married life in Isaacs Harbour. She was a member of Laurel Rebekah Lodge 101, Goldboro. She was an avid bingo player and a member of the 19-90 Club at Seaside Recreation Centre, Goldboro. She was a former member of Isaac Harbour Women's Institute as well as the Red Cross Society. She and her husband raised a large family and their home was always open to the children of the community. Surviving are sons, Howard, Albert, Edison Jr., Raymond, Isaacs Harbour; Jackie, Cole Harbour; Arnold, Porters Lake; Wayne, Calgary; daughters, Alice (Mrs. Lawrence Peters), Winnipeg; Florence (Mrs. Russel Munroe), White Head, Guysborough Co.; Joyce Avery, Lundy, Guysborough Co.; Ileen (Mrs. Richard Hudson), Country Harbour, Guysborough Co.; Verna (Mrs. Arthur Steeves), Timberlea; Cindy (Mrs. James Parsons), Port Bickerton, Guysborough Co.; brothers, Calvin, Harvey, Arnold, Isaacs Harbour; Ronald, Halifax; sister, Lillian (Mrs. Frank Sechesky, Terrace Bay, Ont.; 32 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Edison; sons, Douglas, Cecil, Allan; brothers, Lindsay, Almon, Wilfred; sisters, Mildred Cody, Helen Gillard, Emma Hallett; daughter-in-law, Elsie; brothers-in-law, Smith Giffin, Wilson Avery; grandson, Aubrey; granddaughter, Wanda Pauline. Funeral 2 p.m. today in Isaacs Harbour United Baptist Church, Rev. Chuck Mosley officiating. Burial in Isaacs Harbour United Baptist Cemetery. Donations to Dalhousie Medical Foundation for Research in Fabrays Disease or Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch. Arrangements entrusted to G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, Country Harbour.
