Miss Mary Ellen Hattie R.N.
MULGRAVE, Jan 10--The death of Miss Mary Ellen (Nellie) Hattie, R.N.,
eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Howard D Hattie, Mulgrave,
occurred at St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish, Jan 1.
Miss Hattie was a graduate of Ottawa Civil Hospital.
Following her training she nursed at Cornwall General Hospital, Cornwall, Ontario.
Later and until the time of her illness one year ago,
she was assistant supervisor at Cobourg General Hospital, Cobourg, Ontario.
Coming at the age of 42 years,
Miss Hattie’s death is a great loss not only to her parents and family
but also to her many friends and to the nursing profession.
Capable and efficient, with a kindly, sympathetic manner to those who were ill,
her passing was also regretted by a host of former patients,
as was testified by the beautiful floral display,
cards and letters of sympathy received at the family home.

Surviving besides her parents are one sister,
Catherine, Mrs Einar Einarsen of Flin Flon, Manitoba
and seven brothers, John, James, and William of Flin Flon, Manitoba,
Phillip of Pickle Crowe, Ontario, Charles, C.N.R. employee of Sydney,
Roy, attending Nova Scotia Technical College, Halifax, and Alfred, Town Clerk of Mulgave.

Funeral service was held at the family home,
conducted by Rev. E. G. Barette of Trinity United Church.
A favorite hymn of the deceased, “Sometime We’ll Understand”,
was sung by Mrs R. Worthen, as organist.
Interment was in United Church Cemetery.
