John H. Suttis

Sherbrooke, February 18-
The death occurred at his home
here at an early hour Friday morning of John H. Suttis.
One of the oldest residents of the place, at the age of 85 years.
The deceased was born at Port Hilford,
and for years operated a lobster cannery at Sonora,
and later carried on the same business in the eastern States.
He was for some time employed as inspecetor
during construction of the Transcontinental Railway.
Since his retirement from active business
he has been an enthusiastic gardener.
Remaining active and vigorous in mind and body,
he kept abreast of the times and was in his usual good health
and cheer until his sudden death.

Mr. Suttis was twice married,
first to a Miss Murdoch of Stillwater,
by whom he had two daughters,
and later to Miss Bessie Currie of Halifax,
who survives him. One daughter survives,
Beatrice, wife of J.W. Leslie of Sherbrooke,
also ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren
and a number of nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Martha H. Flemming, vice-principal of Halifax Academy,
is a niece and was present at the funeral
which was held on Saturday from his late residence,
Rev. J.W. Britton of St. James Presbyterian Church, conducted the service.
Interment was at Sherbrooke.
