Mrs Bessie Johnson, Hazel Hill, May 31, -
Mrs Bessie Johnson, the oldest
resident of Hazel Hill,
passed away at the home of her son, Mr and Mrs
Bernard Johnson,
on Sunday, May 25, in her 89th year.
She did her own
housekeeping until about two and a half years ago
when her son persuaded
her to live with him and his wife and family.
She was active until about
six months ago when her health failed.
The deceased was the daughter of
Mr
and Mrs Nathaniel Lawrence of Middle Manchester.
She married Fredrick
Johnson of Hazel Hill and had nine children
of which three are living. She
is survived by
three sons, Bernard, Glenn and Ivan of Hazel Hill.
There are
four grandchildren and nine great grand children.
The funeral service on
Tuesday was conducted by Rev Mr Beaumont.
The hymns sung were "Beyond the
Sunset",
"Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross" and "Jesus I come to Thee."
Interment was in the Baptist Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ernest Snow, Gerald
Bennett, William Carey,
Vernon Pembrooke, Stanley Borden and Arthur
Lawrence.
Mrs. Johnson will be remembered for her kindness.
She helped
wherever she was that help was needed.
