ASPEN --The Mitchell family of this community suffered a double bereavement when Mrs. William H. Mitchell and her son Blake passed away within a week of each other.
Mrs. Mitchell died at her home in Aspen January 13, while her son died following an operation in the Toronto General Hospital.

Mrs. Mitchell was in her sixty-fifth year.
She was born at South Lochaber, a daughter of the late Thomas Malloy and Margaret (Carroll) Malloy.

Although she had been in failing health for some time, she was able to be around as usual, until Jan. 12 when she suffered a stroke.

She is survived by her husband and one daughter Stella (Mrs. Lloyd Allen) Aspen;
one sister Mrs. Duncan MacDougall, New Glasgow;
two brothers, George of South Lochaber, and Robert of Aspen.

The funeral was held from the Presbyterian Church Monday at (?) o'clock with the Rev. Piercy McLean, Loch Katrine, officiating.

Hymns sung by the choir were "The Lord's My Shepherd," "There's A Land of Pure Delight," and a quartet "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" was sung by Fisher Clarence and Robert Archibald of Denver and Robert Archibald of New Town.

Pall bearers were John H. Jordan, Harry Gunn, Chester McInnis, Edison Sutherland, George Fisher and Howard Fisher.

Blake Mitchell

Her son Blake had been a patient in St. Martha's Hospital from September and on Jan. 10 he was moved to the Toronto General Hospital where he underwent a serious heart operation, which was successful and he appeared to be making a satisfactory recovery when his death came.

He was born as Aspen 36 years ago, and lived there all his life. He and his father carried on lumbering operations.

He was of a cheerful disposition and was well liked by all who knew him.

He is survived by his widow, the former Minnie Malloy;
five sons, Roy, Lloyd, Donald, Douglas and Freddie;
and one daughter, Thelma;
his father and one sister, Stella (Mrs. Lloyd Allen) all of Aspen.

The remains were brought home from Toronto by Lloyd Allen, brother-in-law of the deceased, who accompanied Mr. Mitchell to Toronto and stayed with him until after the operation.

The funeral was held from the United Church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. R.G. R.Webber officiating and was largely attended despite the fact that many roads were cut off by rising waters.

Hymns sung by the choir were "Such Pity as a Father Has", "Abide With Me" and "O God of Bethel" at the church and "Shall We Gather at the River?" at the graveside.

Pall bearers were Eddie Sutherland, George Fisher, Letsor Schrader, Frank Archibald, Fraser McGrath and Stuart MacKeen.

Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.
