Dec. 12th--the death of Joseph Peitzsch
occurred at Yankee Harbor, on Friday, December 1st,
in the 73rd year of his age.
Yankee Harbor is a fishing Village situated on the Eastern side
of White Head Harbor, where the deceased resided all his life.
On Friday morning he came to White Head in a small boat
and bought his supply of groceries for winter
and left here about 11 a.m. to return to his home,
his boat loaded with the necessary supplies.
He arrived home safely and went to his house and had dinner.
After dinner he, with his two sons, came down to the wharf
and took the stuff out of the boat. The old gentleman
got in the boat and passed the parcels up to his boys,
and in some way lost his balance and fell overboard.
His two sons jumped in the boat and hauled their father out
of the water immediately and took him to the landing.
He was still conscious and they attempted to lead him to the house
but before they got very far the poor old man
said to lay him down he was done for
and he breathed his last in a very few moments.
He used to complain of having a weak heart and it is supposed
the shock of falling in the water caused his death.
He is survived by eight sons and one daughter,
Edward, Manager of the New Glasgow Fish Market, New Glasgow;
Roland in Worcester, Mass.; George in Liverpool, N.S.;
William, Joseph, Howard, Haws and Spurgeon at home.
The daughter is Mrs. Albert Munroe, Yankee Harbor.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon
Interment being in the Methodist cemetery at White Head.
The funeral services were in the Methodist Church.
The Rev. Mr. Friesen officiated.
The death occurred suddenly at Yankee Harbour, Guysborough County,
on December 1st,
of Joseph A. Peitzsch, a well known resident of that
place,
in his 73rd year. Deceased was in good health up to the time
of his death,
which came very suddenly. A large number of friends will
regret the passing
away of the deceased. He leaves to mourn his loss
a large family
of eight sons and one daughter, all grown up,
besides
two brothers and three sisters.
He was laid to rest on Sunday
afternoon at White Head,
beside the remains of his wife, who
pre-deceased him fourteen years ago.
Rev. Mr. Freisin of the
Methodist Church conducted the funeral services.
A large number
of friends paid their last respects
to deceased by attending the
funeral.
He was prepared to meet the end and never feared death.
