Elderly Port Hilford Woman
Killed Instantly When Struck By Truck
PORT HILFORD, Sept. 12 -
A 77 year old Port Hilford woman,
Mrs. Caroline Lynds, was instantly killed
early this evening when she was struck by a truck
in front of her home. Mrs. Lynds was apparently
waiting for traffic along the road to pass before crossing
but stepped out after two cars had passed
into the path of an oncoming truck.
Swerved Into ditch
George Jack, Port Bickerton, operator of the truck,
swerved the vehicle into the ditch in an attempt
to avoid her but was unsuccessful.
Dr. G.L. Silver arrived on the scene shortly after the accident
and pronounced the woman dead from multiple injuries.
Inquest Today
An Inquest will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday,
R.C.M.P. from Sherbrooke investigated the accident.
Surviving are two sons, Fred, where she made her home
at Port Hilford, and Thomas, Eecum Secum; and one daughter,
Lillian (Mrs. Charles Publicover), Port Hilford.
Also surviving are four brothers, Clifford, Montreal;
Alfred, Otto and Stanley, all of Port Bickerton;
and five sisters, Mrs. David MacDonald and Mrs. Stella MacKenzie,
both of Indian Harbor Lake; Mrs. Simon MacDonald, Hopewell;
Fanny and Eva. Funeral arrangements
have not yet been completed.
