MOSES COOK SCOTT

Guysboro, April 23 --
There passed away at his residence
at Guysboro, after a long illness,
Moses Cook Scott, in his 83rd year,
one of the oldest and a highly respected citizen
of that place. The late Mr. Scott was born
in Guysboro and spent the whole of his life
in his native town. In 1885 he was appointed
keeper of the "lighthouse" at Guysboro,
which he held with distinction until 1915,
when he resigned in 1915 on account of ill health
and was succeeded by his son George.
He was on his resignation awarded the
"Canadian Civil Service medal"
for long and faithful service. The deceased was
a member in good standing of the Masonic fraternity.
Was made in Temple Lodge, No. 57, Mulgrave
in 1873, and was a charter member and past master
of Eastern Light No. 72 Guysboro in its organization
and held the office of senior deacon for many years
in which he was one of the best posted in the province.
He was buried with masonic honors in the Protestant cemetery
in his native town. He was predeceased by his wife Matilda Eheler,
who passed away in January last after a brief illness
of pneumonia. The late Mrs. Scott was a faithful wife
and loving mother who during the years
of her husbands illness was in constant attendance.
She was possessed of a whole hearted christian kindliness
and hospitality that won for her a host of friends.
They had a family of ten children of whom
nine survive to mourn the loss of loving parents,
Lois A. Racey, of Edmonton, Bessie Sinnamon of Jolliette, Quebec,
wife of A. Sinnamon; Hattie, wife of W. D. Smith, (deceased);
Gertie, of Guysboro, wife of Homer Lumsden;
Joseph, captain of S.S. Magdalene; John,
in the Customs, Sydney; George, at home;
Sanford, commercial traveller; Roy, in Winnipeg,
and Clarence in Alberta.
