Hannah Jane Haines - Canso, Feb.22 -
The community was saddened by the sudden passing of
Miss Hannah Haines on Sunday afternoon.
In the early hours of Sunday morning,
her attendant Miss Evelyn George was awakened and seeing
Hannah needed immediate medical care phoned for Dr. J.J. Stanton
and nurse Taylor. After the morning services,
her pastor Rev. H.E. Colpitts of the Canso Baptist Church
and W.C.Forbes, of St. Paul's United were both with her
until she passed peacefully away.
She was born almost 56 years ago in Canso,
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Williams Haines.
She leaves to mourn one brother Clifford of Halifax
and one nephew Reginald Snow, also of Halifax.
Funeral services were conducted both at the house and at the church
by Rev. H.E. Colpitts and W.C. Forbes.
To pay a fitting tribute to Miss Haines
the words of her pastor who attend her are the best to give.
"Hannah Haines was a saint, her life was an example and a source of strength to all...
Those who ministered to her in any way found they were blessed by her
in any way found they were blessed by her christlikeness.
Never querulous, never bitter, above all else we would agree that she is
the best decribed by the word christian in its finest meanings."
The choirs of the United Baptist, St.Paul's United with Miss Lillian Horton
as organist were in attendance. Her favorite hymn
"Will the circle be Unbroken" was sung.
The pall bearers were George Bond, Bert Nickerson,
Homer Nickerson, Arthur Roberts, William Ryan, and Alec Cameron.
