Leonard Palmer Croft
CROFT, LEONARD PALMER - 86,
formerly of Liscomb, Guys. Co.,
died Tues. Oct.
24, 2000,
in the Highcrest Nursing Home, Sherbrooke.
Born in Halifax, on
March 19, 1914,
he was the son of the late
James David and Ethel Mary
(Rudolph) Croft.
At an early age he moved with his parents to Little
Liscomb.
He was an avid hunter and sport fisherman all his life.
He
was a veteran of the Second World War,
serving in the R.C.N., St. John's
Newfoundland.
After the war he worked with Rex Redmond at Hemlow's
Store in Liscomb,
until it closed in 1957. His career with the Federal
Government
began in 1959 in Ecum Secum, as a meteorologist,
continued
in Elmsdale at the Halifax International Airport, ending in Moncton,
N.B., where he retired as Regional Supervisor with the Department of
Transport.
In 1978 he returned to Liscomb. He was a devoted member of
St.John's United Church, Liscomb for 64 years, serving as Treasuerer
and secretary.
He was Past Master of Queen's Lodge
34, AM&FM, Sherbrooke,
serving as secretary for several years. He was a recipient of the
Meritous Service Award
and was due to receive his 50 year jewel in
2001.
He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch
86.
He is survived by his special companion and wife of 56 years,
Myrtle;
daughter Brenda (Michael) Wheeler, Surrey, B.C., son Blair (Susan)
Croft;
grandchildren, Justin, Vanessa, and Julian, all of Mineville;
brother,
Lloyd Croft, Liscomb; sister Edith Cameron, East River
St.Mary's;
several nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his son,
Gilbert;
sister Hazel Mason, Antigonish and a sister, Myrtle;
brother,
Murdock, who died in childhood.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9pm Friday,
Oct. 27,
in Ecum Secum Funeral Home, Sherbrooke.
Funeral service will be
held at 2:30 pm Sat.
in St.John's United Church, Liscomb, Rev.James
Forbes
officiating.
Burial will follow in St. John's United Cemetery, Liscomb.
A Masonic service will be held in the funeral home at 6:30
pm Friday.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made
to the Canadian Cancer
Society.
