Nancy left this life on Easter Sunday, April 8, in Canso Seaside Manor where she had been a resident for several years. During her last hours she had the comfort of her sister June, her niece Elaine and members of the manor staff in whose tender professional care she had been.
Second child of the late Sidney and Letitia (Hart) Bushell, of Hazel Hill. She is survived by five siblings, Diana Geil (Lloyd), London Ont; Valerie Rogers (Allison), Hannon Ont; June Jarvis (Joseph Richard), Canso; Martin (Elizabeth), Hammonds Plains; and Norris (Jane), River John.
Nancy was predeceased by her loving husband, Warren Peters, six siblings, Pauline MacPhee (Edward), Truro; Arnold (Mabel), Halifax; Lee (Betty), Antigonish; Alice Burrows (Gerald), Toronto; Dorothy Hutchinson (Douglas) and Norman (Geraldine), Dartmouth.
Also surviving are a number of first cousins in Canada and England; numerous nieces and nephews, great and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one niece and four nephews.
Nancy's retirement home, "Four Winds" at Hazel Hill, was a haven of hospitality for family and friends, as was her cottage "Sugarberry" at Black Duck Cove. She loved music and played the piano. Guests who dropped in were often greeted by the sound of something lovely playing on the stereo and the smell of blueberry muffins in the oven. She loved the outdoors, was a capable gardener, an avid berry picker, a birder of some renown and ardent angler.
Among her younger relatives, her nearest and dearest were her nephew, Stephen Bushell and her niece, Elaine (MacKinnon) Bushell. Their faithful care was a constant comfort to Nancy from the time she was widowed in 1991, until the day she left us.
There will be no visitation.
Celebration of life will be on Wednesday, April 18, from All Saints Anglican Church, Canso at 2p.m. with Rev. Heather Manuel and Father Darroch Fagan officiating. Committal in Fourth Hill Cemetery following the service. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
