The Elves of Karameikos

This describes the elves of Karameikos for use within Dungeons & Dragons, 3rd Edition and Mystara campaign. Some of the this refers to clans mentioned from the GAZ1: The Grand Duchy of Karameikos (GDK) by Aaron Allston. However, the details of the clans is very terse, and so a creative license is used to detail the clans as well as add some new clans.

-Joaquin Menchaca

All elves in Mystara are the same. There are no subgroups of elves with different abilities. As a race they are essentially the same people with exception of coloration of skin, eyes, hair, etc. This is much the same for humans. Presented here is a write-up of the Elves.

Major Clans

There are two main clans within Karameikos: Vyalia clan and the Calarii clan. The elves of the Vyalia clan often call themselves Vishanii, rather than Vyalians. Humans refer to them often as Vyalians, and the Vishanii are quick to correct this.

Calarii

The Calarii are a noble and honorable clan of elves dominant the forest regions within Karameikos. The Calarii aggressively study their martial skills feeling that this will bring them closer to nature. They judge others individually and have judged Duke Stefan Karameikos III to be good and honorable. They help train Karameikan soldiers in martial combat, arts, and warfare, and also themselves serve as apart of the Duke's army.

Vyalia

The Vyalia clan lives deep within unexplored regions of the forest towards the eastern border of Karameikos. Little is known about these elves as they are a more reclusive and seldom interact with other races in Karameikos. The Vyalian elves are said to live in complete harmony with nature and have elite nature warriors called foresters that seek to protect both life and nature.

Minor Clans

The minor clans are groups of elves that have banded together under a common philosophy and shared objectives. These clans can be formed by splinter groups or by foreign elves living within the region.

Asagarii

The Asagarii are an elite warrior group of demon hunters that seek to clean up the mess that the Dinarii leave behind. Both the Asagarii and Dinarii share the same ideals in that they feel that mankind is a plague upon nature, but the Asagarii differ in that they feel mankind can be taught how to coexist with nature in harmony.

Dinarii

As the humans continue to exploit and destroy Mystara, and the elves have even gone so far as to serve and train humans, many elves could not stomach it any longer, and hence the Dinarii were formed. They see humankind as a plague upon nature that desperately needs to be cured. The Dinarii are an elite group that hunts villains of nature and makes them finally become one with natural cycle. They have explored an ancient forbidden magic of the elves hidden past.

Linarii

The Linarii are a clan that followed the way of the Gentle Folk by a path to peace that can be achieved through the rigorous devotion to absolute logic. The Linarii set out to form their own clan after failing to reshape the Calarii towards a path of logic and peace. In their journey, the clan was attacked by dark forces and was utterly decimated. The Linarii clan is believed to be extinct.

Selenii

The selenii are unknown to all elves, humans, and other races within Karameikos. Many elves and those of the Zirchev faith suspect their existence, but cannot prove they truly exist. If such a group does exist within secrecy, then it believed that these elves are actively searching for some possible dark source.
