Ryo-ohki's episode guide

  • missed an episode?well read the rest here. you know though, these are all written on the back of the boxes(i may of added something extra) but a lot of the credit goes to Pioneer but you can't forget me^-^

Episode #1 No Need For Discussions! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tenchi Masaki is an ordinary high school boy. On his way home from school, he runs into a beautiful girl, Ryoko, who claims that she is running away from an evil soace pirate. That night, the mysterious "enemy" arrives at Tenchi's residence to reveal that in fact Ryoko is the space pirate and the "enemy" is the Galaxy Police space detective, Mihoshi, who's after the criminal! After the commotion, Tenchi finds both Ryoko and Mihoshi settling down in his home somehow.... Our first episode opens with Tenchi's monologue as he reminisces about "those days". This narration, as you will see at the ens of this series, so just keep it in mind. As a pleasent surprise to Mihoshi fans, she makes her appearance in this first episode, unlike the OAV series. Aren't we impressed? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #2 No Need For A Princess! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In responce to the distress signal from Mihoshi, Princess Aeka of the Jurai Royal Family arrives in her spaceship for a rescue. It is an unfortunate turn of fate that Aeka should find her worst childhood enemy, Ryoko, standing right next to Mihoshi. Mihoshi is completelyforgotten as the old rivalry flares up to a major space battle between the princess and the space pirate, a battle so fierce that both of their spaceships are destroyed! Now Aeka has no choice but to stay at Tenchi's residence along with her hated enemy, Ryoko. Tenchi is about to learn the real meaning of "hardship".... The rivalry between Ryoko and Aeka goes far back to their childhood and is rooted even deeper than it was in our OAV series. What facts could possibyly build the kind of childhood stories they tell. Whether you like it or not, you're going to see this old conflict erupt again and again during this series. Well, you now have a chance to see Ryoko as a little girl for the first time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #3 No Need For Worries! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Having lost her spaceship, Aeka has no choice but to stay with Tenchi's family. As she softens, she finds herself more and more attracted to Tenchi. Then, her little sister Sasami arrives to take her back home. Finally, Aeka can go home. At the farwell party Ryoko has some shocking news to break-she claims she is pregnant! A baby is born and it turns out to be a space creature called Ryo-ohki. More trouble! Eventually Aeka ends up being stranded once again on Earth, this time along with her little sister.... Lucky you! You're going to meet two of out most popular characters, Ryo-ohki and Samami, all at once in a signal episode! Like anyother pet, our Ryo-ohki has her favorite food-carrots! Her craze for carrots is even more exaggerated here than in the OAV sereies! As for Sasami, you can enjoy yourself watching her both in her space suits and everyday clothes. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #4 No Need For Monsters! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With her spaceship crippled, Sasami happy joins Mihoshi, Aeka and Ryoko to live with Tenchi's family. It doesn't take long befor Ryoko gets everyone into big trouble the day she decides to play with the ancient "demon" sealed in the cave of Masaki Shirne. As Tenchi is dragged into Ryouko's adventure, jealous Aeka goes after them with Mihoshi and Sasami tagging along. When the conflict between Ryoko and Aeka reaches its peak, the demon is resurrected! It turns out that this "demon" is in fact Washuu, a genius scientist from outer space who happened to land on Earth in her exile. Tenchi is no longer surprised when she joins his family just as the other girls have done before her.... It is Washuu we find in that cave, not Ryoko like in the OAV series. From this point on, our TV sries starts to taake a clearly differnt road from the OAV series. For instance, Mihoshi and Washuu do not seem to have any special "love" feelings for Tenchi. By the way, don't you love the little Washu puppets cheering on Washuu's Shoulders? They could make a perfect merchandising item! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #5 No Need for Partners! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kiyone is the most capable Gaxaly Police detective. She has believed that her goofy partner Mihoshi died on her her mission, until the day HQ informed her that Mihoshi is waiting rescued on planet Earth. Not exactly a good news for Kiyone! She sets out for Planet Earth, hoping that HQ has given her misinformation but knowing somehow it is true. And she's right. She finds Mihoshi waiting for her, smiling her guileless smile, waiting for her, along with some surprising unexpected company: the most wanted criminal, the missing princesses and the legendary mad scientist! Kiyone's nightmarish days are back. Meet Kiyone, the only "victim" character we have besides Tenchi. While she has never been part of the "regular" cast in the OAV series, we know that her valiant performance in our specials and CD dramas have won her many followers who would now officially welcome her as one of the main cast members. Her interplay with Mihoshi is nothing less than hilarious, worthy of the name of "Miho-Kiyo Duo." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #6 No Need For Resident Officers! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By an unexpected order from the Galaxy Police HQ, our mismatched duo, Mihoshi and Kiyone, are assigned to stay on Earth as resident officers. They move out of the Masaki residence to start thier own lives in a meager apartment. Nothing can affect Mihoshi she simply reminds her goofy, cheerful self wherever she is. Kiyone, on the other hand, has all the worries in the universe. She now has to "baby-sit" her partner while struggling with the high cost of living on Earth. They have to work many hours on part-time jobs to make a living, and the moment they receive a duty call, they have to drop everything to rush in thier spaceship, Yagami, to the scene of the crime. The Miho-Kiyo Duo is ever on duty, bound by a strange bond of rotten fate! This episode to tell a story of Mihoshi and Kiyone living on Earth. Anyone who sees this episode first would believe that these two girls are the show's heroines. It seems like they must have more stories to tell about their lives on Earth. we can expect another episode with more of this charming duo! Once you're caught in the quicksand of Miho-Kiyo Duo routines, you can never leave! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #7 No Need For A Carnival! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One summer evening, an annual carnival takes place at the Masaki Shrine. Tenchi takes the excited Sasami there to check it out. What they discover, mixed in with the other booths at the carnival, are ryouko's fish-scooping booth, Aeka's shooting gallery, a fried noodle shop run by Mihoshi and Kiyone, and Washu's house of horrors ... none of which are as normal as they look in the beginning! You may think that carnivals are just for fun, but this one proves to be a life threatening adventure for Tenchi! To add to the commotion, as Ryoko and Aeka start to fight (what else is new?), things get out of hand. It's getting late at the carnival .... Now that the main characters have come out of the box, we proceed to depict their everyday life. You will find that the secong half of Chapter: Earth reflects the best of the TENCHI world. Sit back and enjoy the free wheeling wild actions of our well established characters! This time, the childhood story of ryoko and Aeka reveals them as 10 year olds. How much of the story is true? Oh, who cares...? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #8 No Need For A Genius! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trying to make up for the 700 years she wasted in the sealed cave, our genius scientist "Little" Washu works day and night on her inventions. To double the efficiency, she comes up with a wonderful idea of creating another Washu. Mecha Washu is completed, but something seems to be drastically wrong... Mihoshi's genitic data was input by mistake, and as a result, Mecha Washu has Washu's genius power combined with Mihoshi's silly mind! It's no wonder things get completely out of control! The only way to stop it is to destroy it. A volleyball game of life and death now begins. Hurry, horray, Washu, fight!! A story about our mad scientist "Little" Washu. While she has many stories to tell about her millions of inventions, this is the only episode of its kind in this TV series. Too bad! The Washu Puppets are cute and "alive" - in this episode anyway. If you want to know what TV show mihoshi is watching, it's MOLDIVER, one of the most popular OAV series distributed by Pioneer. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #9 No Need For Memories! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this part of the country where Tenchi lives, it's been many years since it last snowed. Sasami is thrilled to see snow fall for the fisrt time in her life, whereas Ryoko is miserable, glued to the heater to keep herself warm. The men of the Masaki family are pensive as the snow reminds them of a special memory they share... Aeka's spaceship, Ryu-Oh is repairing itself as the melancholy day slowly drifts by. Suddenly, Tenchi is stuck ill. All the adults in the housde are drunk and asleep, so it's up to Sasami to save him! As if in answer to her desperate prayers, a miracle happens... Unlike the slap stick comedy we've seen so far in this series, this is one episode that works on your emotions. On the other hand, there's alot of "foreshadowing" information that's contained in this episode, such as the revival of Ryu-Oh and the special swordsmanship kept in the royal family of Jurai, all of which will fully unravel in the next CHAPTER: SPACE. Another point of interest in this episode is the performance by Mr. Takeshi Aono (Jay Hopper in English) playing Katsuhito (Grandpa) and Nobuyuki (Dad). You could admire it as something only a seasoned and talented voice actor like him can accomplish. Of course, if you wish to admire the visual aspect of Nobuyuki's assistant Reiko at the same time, be my guest, by all means... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode # 10 No Need For An Arch Rival! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nagi the bounty hunter comes to Earth in search of her arch-rival Ryoko! Taking Tenchi hostage, she demands Ryoko for a duel. They soon find out, however, that they just can't fight in the air because their spaceships, Ryo-Ohki and Ken-Ohki, are in love with each other. Washu steps in to suggest a classic "Old West" style duel instead-in the Old West village she builds on Venus especially for this occasion. A merciles battle begins beetween the most wanted space pirate and the bounty hunter! While Ryoko is having a hard time dealing with Nagi's sure-handed vicious attacks, Aeka sees her chance to rescue Tenchi herself. She takes an action which accidentally brings an unexpected showdown to it all... Meet Nagi and Ken-Ohki, the new characters that are completely original in the TV sereis. Ryoko has a busy life being chased not only by the police but also by bounty hunters like Nagi! The street-hardened personality of Nagi could have made this episode rather hard-boiled, if not for Ken-Ohki who funtions in the dramas as an "antidote" for Nagi's presence. IF you don't already know from the OAV series Ryo-Ohki is a girl, this is the story for you to find out. Meow!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episodes #11, 12, and 13 Time and Space Adventures Part 1 - 3 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "With this device, you can change the world the way you want!" Washuu's latest invention is the Dimensional Cause & Effect Controller. This outrageous device can completely change the world into whatever people want it to be. Everyone rushes to input their wishes into this Controller, driving it mad! Now Tenchi and company are at the mercy of the Controller as they wander from one parallel worl to another. Princess Aeka, in her parallel world, is a housewife leading a carefree life as Tenchi's wife. Ryoko, in another parallel world, has Tenchi as her gangster partner so she can live the action-filled dangerous life she's always desired. When all of these worlds are combined, it's no wonder that our story becomes a blind roller coaster ride! Washu is the only hope we have to help bring this mayhem back to normal... The TIME/SPACE ADVENTURE is based on a CD drama od the same title. Due to the limited capacity of the CD, however, this "Heian Era" chapter had ro be cut out of the final edition. It was a pity especially because the story takes place in a world where eka has her wishes come true. Now we are pleased to be able to share it with our TV series viewers. A happy ending! The world where Kiyone has her wishes come true. This story is not includes in the CD either-it is original to the TV series. By the way, have you noticed that everyone cast in her world is happy if, and only if, Kiyone herslef takes all the hardships with ultimate patience? She is a victim, indeed, oh, poor thing! Mihoshi's world. What a family she has! This is not a parady of the world of SAZ?E-SAN, oh no! (Even though I don't blame any first-time viewer for believing so.) Anyhow, it makes me wonder why Kiyone always looks to me to be the most unfortunate one of all... To conclude the episode, Ryoko has her wishes come true in her world. Whereas she was cast as a space pirate in the CD version, she is now an American gangster here. The emotional qualityu of the last sequece of this episode foreshadows what we will see in the last episode of the series. By the way, wouldn't you have liked to see Washu's world as well? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #14 No Need For A Rebellion! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tenchi flies into outer space to save the girls! Three months have passed since Ryoko and the others have settled down in the Masaki residence. One day, Tenchi comes home from school and finds his house gone! Out of nowhere, a capsule lands infront of the stunned Tenchi. Washuu and Mihoshi step out to tell him that Ryoko, Aeka and Sasami have benn arrested for treason by the Jurai Military Force. What is really goiung on...!? Tenchi flies into outser space with Mihoshi in an effort to save the girls! In the first episode of SPACE, our story leaves planet Earth and takes us into a new realme of the TV series. Our characters were all established in the Earth episodes, now in the Space episodes, they are ready for action. The stpry follows them episode afyter episode, as they run, chase, blunder and wander through outer space. The opening monologue of Ryoko has a significant meaning as you will see in good time... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #15 No Need For An Escape! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tenchi and gang now wanted criminals for attempting a coup d'etat! They manage to safely rescue Aeka and the others from the Jurai Force, only to discover that now they are all wanted criminals for attempting a coup d'etat! Who set them up? What is behind it all...? Meanwhile, Kiyone is excited when she gets called back to GP HQ to get a promotion. Reporting to her boss's office, however, she is asked to offer information about Tenchi and company. She pretents she know nothing and quietly warns herself to be cautious. Something is very wrong...Mihoshi'd blunder puts her in a spot. Suddenly she finds herslef running for ehr life, along with Mihoshi. She's being chased by her own colleagues, as a member of the Tenchi coup d'etat bunch! The Galaxy Police HQ, armada, Jurai ships and people, are just a sampling of the many new elements we will discover in the course of these episodes. Mitsuki, the ambitious colleage of Kiyone, makes her appearance only in this episode. If you want to know more about her, she has a part in the mini-drama included in the TV VERSION CD (2) (FYI!)! Katsuhito's (Grandpa) presence seems to have more influence in the story, and will continue doing so even more... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #16 No Need For Hiding! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- They head for Planet Jurai to find out the truth! Because of a conspiracy by someone unknown, Tenchi and company are now wanted throughout the galaxy. They head for Planet Jurai in thier spaceship to try to find out the truth, only to run out of fuel and be stalled in the middle of nowhere in no time! Besides, they don't have enough money to finance such a grand project. They decide to stop at a nearby planet to make money, and the fastest way to do so is to open a bar with Aeka as its MAMA, Ryoko and Mihoshi as bar maids and Tenchi as a waiter. It's the grand opening of Cabaret Tenchi!? Their uncoventional space adventure has just begun. They have a long journay ahead of them. The karaoke sequence, with so many original songs to offer, is the highlight of this episode. The childhood story of Ryouko and Aeka shows them as 14 years old this time. To me, Nagi is the most impressive. The fact she pays that ridiculous bill at that ridiculous bar shows her true colours-she is a good girl, after all. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #17 No Need For Hunger! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Come back Ryoko, everyone is dying" Tenchi and company speed through space heading for Planet Jurai. They have managed to get fuel but now their engine isn't working! Stalled in outer space, once again they ask a reluctant Washu to repair. When the engine problem is fixed and ready to go, they're shocked to discover that thier food provisions are gone. Ryoko and Ryo-Ohki have eaten up whatever little that was left. Ryoko goes out to buy food for everyone, presumably feeling responsible, while the rest of the group wait patiently for her to return with something to eat...if she ever does, that is. Comeback, Ryoko, everyone is starved! A double punch of engine trouble and a shortage of provisions almost disables them. Washu Puppets make their comeback appearance after a long absence. Please note that each screen writer has his own favorite "items" to write-Washu Puppets are Mr. Kuroda's and Mr. Tsukimura is responsible for those childhood stories of Ryoko and Aeka. The more you know, the more interesting it becomes! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #18 No Need for A Ghost! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Tenchi and gang are now the wanderers in the Sargasso Sea!" As the Spaceship Yagami cruises through an asteroid belt, its engine stops all of a sudden! Tenchi and company realize with dismay that they have wandered into the Sargasso Sea-also known as the graveyard of spaceships! Supernatural phenomenon occur one after another. Then, a mysterious girl named Mirie appears out of nowhere to quietly invite Sasami to "her place" which turns out to be another dimension altogether. While Sasami spends a day of wonder and fun with Mirei, Tenchi and the others frantically looking for Sasami who's been missing all day. They decide to explore a nearby ghost ship and find out.... One of the very few emotional episodes in our TV series, was written by Ms. Hasegawa who was one of the writers for the first season of the OAV series as well as the novel. The focal point of this episode is the guest character Mirei. As it happens, this kind of "one-time" character often wins a certain number of enthusiastic followers. We'll see. Along with Sasami, Ryo-Ohki is also lovable, even more then usual. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #19 No Need For Runaways! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "They find out that Yagami, thier spaceship, is hijacked!" Tenchi and company for a meal at the beef bowl diner. When they get ready to leave, however, they find that Yagami, their spaceship, is hijacked. They rush aboard Ryo-Ohki so they can catch the hijackers Amarube and Yura, the juvenile delinquent teenage boy and girl working together at the diner, only to be outrun and loose sight of Yagami in no time. In the meantime, Yagami, known now to the universe as the vehicle of the wanted coup d'etat group, is spotted by the Galaxy Police. the teenage hihjackers have no idea why the police should attack them so fiercely! Where does this wild goose chase take them all in the end?! Yagami has had nothing but rotten luck ever since CHAPTER: SPACE started, and this time it is hijacked. How about showing a bit more spirit worthy of a GP spaceship, ha...? The teenage hijackers Amarube and Yura are such a conventional presentation of "juvenile delinquency" that they somehow end up looking rather "cute" to me. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #20 No Need For Swimsuits! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Shocking! A swimsuit beauty contest with all the girls!" A fun episode packed with things to enjoy. At a planet-side beach resort, Tenchi and company take part time jobs so they can pay for the repair of the Yagami. They work really hard because making money was never an easy task. Tehn, great news arrives; A local swimsuit beauty contest is offering one million Jurai money to its winner! Seeing a perfect opportunity to put thier perfect figures to use, all our heroines rush to sign up. In the meantime, Nagi the bounty hunter happens to stop at Tenchi's beach stand for a drink. Confronted by Nagi, Ryoko tells her that their duel will just have to wait until the beauty contest is over. All the girls are out to compete for the glorious title os Miss Swimsuit! A fun episode packed with things to enjoy. The initial subtitle that was prepared for newspaper ad was "Shocking! A swimsuit beauty contest with all the girls! What happens when she puts her swimsuit on?" You liar. Nagi's great-looking body should be a pleasent surprise to many of you. I, myself, regret that I didn't notice before and become a fan of Nagi sooner. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #21 No Need For A Checkpoint! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disguising themselves as a group of innocent students our hero and heroines are now thrown into the dramatic climax! Tenchi and company are finally coming close to entering Jurai territory. They are almost there. The only hurdle between them and their destination is the heavily guarded security check point. Disguising themselves as a group of innocent students on a school trip, they just manage to clear-point when Mihoshi's blunder exposes their identities all at once! During the frantic running chase that ensues, a mysterious man shows up to help them escape. We are coming near the climax guys! With their comical space adventures behind them, our hero and heroines are now thrown into the dramatic climax of the story. the disguises they choose for themselves are so ordinary that I find them funny. Could it be a warning toour future world where people can be checked and cleared bt machines no matter how obviously suspicious they may look to human eyes? Nah, not really. Kiyone's disquise as a tour guide is also a glimpse of our feature film, Tenchi Muyo in Love. On the other hand, if you think that Aeka hairdo here looks similar to Achika's you're just seeing things. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #22 No Need For Knights! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tenchi and company manage to infiltrate the Jurai space territories. Unfortunately, Mihoshi's blunder once again makes hem an easy target to spot for the Jurai Force. Katsuhito instructs them to head for the Jurai Sanctuary telling them that they will need help from the two knights sleeping there. With Azaka and Kamidake finally resurrected from the long sleep and Katsuhito's true identity revealed to everyones astonishment, the story rushes headlong into a stormy climax! The Story is quickly transformed into a more serious drama as the climax nears. While the fact that Katsuhito is actually Yosho has been known to us from the OAV series, who would suspected to see Azaka and Kamidake in their humanoid forms!? Anyhow, it has taken suck a long time for the Katsuhito-Yosho mystery to be finally brought into light, hasn't it? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #23 No Need For Karma! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tenchi and company land on a planet to hide from the Jurai Force. It is the place where the Jurai Royal Villa once stood. Katsuhito speaks of Jurai's past, telling them that Tenchi is, in fact, the next heir in the lineage of the Jurai Royal Family. As the of the final conflict approaches, various thoughts go through their minds... Finally, Kagato reveals himself! Once again challenged by his lifetime rival, Katsuhito has to wager all he has to fight! Kagato, the dark puppeteer of the series, finally reveals hinself. Please note that he is presented differently from his namesake in the OAV series. Another important revealation in this episode is the fact Tenchi is the heir in the direct lineage of the Jurai Royal Family. He is as lucky as a hero can be... provided with a house, land, prestigious family, and all the girls... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #24 No Need For Ryoko! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Katsuhito is defeated by the overwhelming power of Kagato. With the Tenchi Sword in hand, Tenchi decides to go save Aeka, who has been taken away. However, before he can make a move, the Jurai Force attacks with an all out barrage of fire on the Yagami! Tenchi barely breaks through the front-line helped by Nagi. Unfortunately, he still has to fight his way through to the Jurai Palace... Ryoko desperately tries to stop him but her effort is in vain. Tenchi's mind is set-he has to go and face the final battle. Ryoko has no choice but to help with mixed feelings, daring a desperate run through space towards the goal! We see Ryoko's desperate love for Tenchi explode in the episode. It is similar to the last sequence of the SPECIAL EVENT, except that this time, the decision is Tenchi's. It is interesting that Tenchi does not seem to be turning down her feeling altogether. Nagi turns out to be a good girl,(I told you so) remember?! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #25 No Need For Showdown! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With help from Ryoko and Nagi, Tenchi finally reaches his destination: the Jurai Royal Palace. The throne room, where Kagato and Aeka await, is just around the corner, when Tessei and Tetta, the two powerful knights serving the Jurai Emperor step in his way. Leaving them to Azaka and Kamidake, Tenchi hurries on to the throne room. As the Evil Imperial Sword in Kagato's hand clashes against the Tenchi Sword in Tenchi's hand, cosmic sparks fly and the final battle is engaged between them to decide who the true Jurai Emperor is. Tenchi does not seem to have much chance to stand against Kagato's awesome and overwhelming power, when... This is an episode with many "highlights". The battle of Azaka/Kamidake verses Tetta/Tessai are especially good to see. The serious and dramatic development of the story you see culminating here is impressive... I don't think you could possibly dream that the slap-stick comedy would eventually come to this, could you? Well, it should prove to you how deep and wide out Tenchi World can be. By the way, it is somehow refreshing to see Aeka's Royal power used for something else then her fights with Ryoko. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode #26 No Need For A Conclusion! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Everything is coming to the end... except for Ryoko who is still missing. Kagato is destroyed. Tenchi and company prove their innocence. Aeka ans Sasami go home to the Jurai Royal Family. Washu is now the honorable chairmen of the Science Academy. Mihoshi and Kiyone are back in the Galaxy Police HQ. Tenchi chooses to give up his throne to return to the Earth... Everything is coming to the end.... except Ryoko who is till missing. Where is she now? What has happened to her...?! The last episode of the series. Instead of a continuous story, it uses several individual sequences to tell what has happned to each of the characters. It also takes the story all the way back to the first episode - remember Tenchi's monologue? - like a circle, as well as leading to the beginning of the feature film. You could say that it symbolizes the endless quality of the Tenchi World. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
