Signing Habits

First off, I want to thank Mike McCarthy for providing most of the formatting of this page. I used his format because I thought his site was effective. He also provided information which was very helpful to making this site. Many thanks to Mike, and I suggest you check out his page.

This page lists the probability that you will get an autograph back from a player. I have divided up all baseball players into four groups: 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4. 0's are the players who never sign any mail. 4's are players who you have almost a 100% success rate with. The rest of the players fall somewhere in between there. Look under the number headings to see how each group signs. This page should be useful in determining who to write to. Good luck.

If I change the section a player falls under, I will have that player's name in red. I will also have a player's name in red if I have just added him to the page.

These player never sign any of their mail. If you're lucky, they might send you back your card unsigned. However, usually if you write to these guys you will not see your card again. Don't waste your time and stamps on these players.

These players are very bad signers. They are almost as bad as a 0, except at some point in time they have signed for someone. It just won't be you. At most, these players sign 5% of the time. Actually, that's too high. They are not worth your time and stamps.

These players are good signers. I'm not guaranteeing that you will get their autograph, but you have a good shot, around a 75% chance. If you write to these guys in Spring Training, you will almost always get their signature. Return times vary, and some of these players may take a while to get back to you.

These are the best signers in baseball. They are guaranteed to return your card signed, and for the most part, they sign very quickly. You can write to them at either their team address or their home address, either way you should get a success. I'd say that they sign 99-100% of the time.
