Travis

Week of 5/9/00-5/15/00

This is the 1st ever Featured Band of the Week on sitting on the silverchair. I can't really explain Travis's sound. They're kind of Brit pop, they sound kind of like Oasis but a lot better in my opinion. Travis was one of my many impulse buys. I bought their CD after hearing their cover of Britney Spears's Baby One More Time... twice, which isn't even on the album. The band said that if Radiohead had written that song it would have been considered brilliant. I don't agree, but they have a point, and I love their version of it.

"Album of the year"-Q, NME, Select

Review:
Flipside, 29th May 1999:

If you liked Oasis, but thought that they veered too often into coke-fuelled braggadocio and cobblers lyrics, or if you liked Radiohead, but were repelled by their overwhelming neuroticism or modernist sheen, then The Man Who might just be the album you're waiting for. Exaggeration? Hardly. You won't be able to wait for one song to finish in anticipation of the next, such is the spine-tingling beauty of the album's ten tracks...The Man Who is nothing less than the new soundtrack to life."

My thoughts:

I currently only own The Man Who, but I will probably get the 1st album sometime.

Standout Tracks on The Man Who:
The Fear, The Last Laugh Of the Laughter, Luv. My personal favorite song is the first hidden track.

Lyrics I like:
-And while the cats were all sniffing glue/They played their silly games-She's So Strange (Track 9)
-But still the radio is playing all the usual/And what's a wonderwall anyway-Writing to Reach You (Track 1)
-There's no devil's haircut in my mind/There is not a wonderwall to climb or step around-Slide Show (Track 10)
