1 Corinthians 6

Court

1 Cor 6:1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?
1 Cor 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

We should not take a brother to court. Even more shameful is the brother who is worthy of court action because of wrong doing. In my business I have had Christians ask favors or refuse to pay for a large bill, based on our being of one faith. NO, unless agreed on you are to meet your obligations. Going to court is wrong in God's eyes. We have God's spirit and the laws written on our hearts, surely we need not a pagan judge to decide for us.

We will judge the world and the fallen angels. Cannot we judge between one another to do right?

1 Cor 6:3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
1 Cor 6:4 If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.

If you must have someone judge between you, let it be a Christian.

1 Cor 6:5 I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?
1 Cor 6:6 But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers.

There are no Christian counsellors? Must you go before a heathen judge?

1 Cor 6:7 Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?

In matters of property, it is better to be defrauded. This is what Jesus said:

Mat 5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Mat 5:40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. Mat 5:41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
Mat 5:42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

1 Cor 6:8 Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.

Christians should never demand from another, or steal from another. God will be your ultimate judge. If you are concerned? This does not apply to you. Some find it hard to receive from another. God will bless the humble spirit.

Washed in the Blood

1 Cor 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
1 Cor 6:10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Fornicators, willingly having sex outside of marriage; idolaters, worshipping anything other than the true God; adulterers, having sex with other than your marriage partner; effeminate, a man dressing as a woman; abusers, homosexuals; thieves, stealing from another; covetous, desiring what another owns; drunkards, intoxicated with strong drink; revilers, abusive person, a slanderer of another; extortioners, obtaining from another wrongly; all these are the works of unrighteousness. Those who continue in these works are not of God's spirit.The Spirit of God cannot do these things.

Isa 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

1 Cor 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? Are you set aside, a clean vessel for the master's use? Are you pronounced not guilty of sins through believing on the name of Jesus? Has he received you? Have you been sealed by God's Holy Spirit, the earnest of God's ownership? Then forsake the works of evil and darkness.

1 Cor 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

We are changed from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. We have a new nature in Jesus that seeks the things of God.

Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Rom 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
Rom 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Let us walk in the Spirit of God as children of light. If we say we are God's and do evil works we lie, and God is not given honor, love and respect. Who you love, you will serve. Love God with all your heart and soul and you will love your neighbor and keep from sin.

Members of Christ

1 Cor 6:13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.

The Corinthians were probably using the saying: "Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods" to justify giving their body whatever "it" wanted. A popular quote today would be "If it feels good, do it" NO, our bodies are not for immoral acts, but for the Lord.

1 Cor 6:14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.

Praise God for this our hope; Jesus was raised, we also shall be raised from death to life immortal by the power of the Holy Ghost that lives within us.

1 Cor 6:15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
1 Cor 6:16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.

God said two shall be joined together and be one flesh. This was the pattern for marriage. You think it is as eating to give your body to a stranger in lust, because you "feel like it"? The Lord says it is combining souls. Being forced, is not combining souls, but an act of an abusive person. God keeps those who are his, even if harm comes to you. We are forever united to Jesus by his Spirit.

1 Cor 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
1 Cor 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

Flee, in thought and action. You sin against your own body, and that of the other. When you are of God's Spirit you belong to God. There is no partnership with the spirit of the world. God is Spirit, all who are in Christ Jesus are of his Spirit.

1 Cor 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

God dwells in the body of those in Christ Jesus. The Holy Spirit resides in the temple. Will you bring the temple of God into immoral behavior? You are not your own, but are owned by God and a spiritual person.

1 Cor 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Ye are bought with a price, therefore glorify your Lord in your bodies. Must this be said? Apparently Corinthian Greece was as America today. God's word is our standard. It is as true today as it was 2000 years ago. God's word stands the test of eternity. He is the Master designer. God loves and receives all who will come to him.

Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Rom 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Rom 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Rom 3:26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

it is Jesus, redeemer of all who receive him or her. How can we go back to sinful behavior? All who have been victims of another's lust? Jesus loves you more then you can imagine. Love him and serve him with a whole heart. Amen
