I wish to offer the following testimony to all of the servants of our Lord Jesus Christ, Our Savior, Baptizer and Healer, for your encouragement and edification.
In 1978 I was living in Red Bluff, California, a single parent of five. I'd had a large stomach ulcer for a number of years, and had been treated by Dr. Reifert in Cottonwood, California. In the latter part of 1978, Dr. Reifert had given me a prescription for pain, and one for stomach acid control, when He informed me that surgical removal of the ulcer was imperative. Since I was still recovering from a very serious brain surgery, he said I should have about another month of recuperation, and be admitted for stomach surgery. He advised me that about three-fourths of the stomach would have to be removed, but that what was left would later stretch to a full sized stomach, which can be verified by any reader's doctor.
Approximately two weeks later, I awoke about four A.M. with a terrific urge to evacuate the bowels, and all that issued was black liquid, lots of it. I went back to bed feeling kind of weak and was awakened about a half-hour later, with the same result. I felt awfully tired and went back to bed. The next time I got up, I almost passed out, from blood loss. I crawled with my face close to the floor in order to retain consciousness, to my teen age son's bedroom. I woke him up, and very little explanation was necessary. He bounced out of bed, and ran for his older sister, and the two of them got me to St. Elizabeth's Hospital. I had lost so much blood, my face and hands were almost snow white, and I was given a blood transfusion, while removing me from the car and getting to emergency room.
Later, having been admitted to a room, and being a Saturday morning, a qualified surgeon was not immediately available. The staff introduced a tube into the stomach through the nose, connected to a pump, which alternately pumped frozen saline fluid onto the Ulcer, which had perforated, and then it pumped out blood. It was an effort to see if the perforation would close off, thereby eliminating surgery. It was a common belief that surgery on a perforated stomach had a 90% chance of turning into peritonitis, which can be fatal. All day Saturday, and all night, the pump continued removing blood. About 8:00 A.M. The surgeon came into my room, and announced his intention to perform the surgery when he got back from church about one or one-thirty P.M. My oldest daughter was there at the time, and heard the report. When she left, she said "Dad, I'll call some people for prayer." She called The Assembly of God Church in Cottonwood, the Redding Christian Singles group, which at that time was sort of sponsored by Bethel Church in Redding, other relatives in Southern California. A relative in Riverside called the Trinity Broadcasting Network, in Santa Ana, I think. I know it sounds a bit overconfident, and maybe it was, for I had not the slightest doubt that God would undertake for me, no matter if ten thousand people Prayed fervently, or no one, My master has not left His throne. The surgeon came about 2.P.M. There was still blood in the pump, and I heard him tell the nurse to pre-op, meaning prepare the patient for surgery. I got scrubbed, the area of the surgery shaved, etc. Then they took me to X-ray, probably to pinpoint the precise location of the perforation. After running a varied assortment of X-rays, I had to wait in the hall for film development for a little while, then wheeled back in, and another set of X-rays was taken. After another l5 minute wait, I was taken back, a bit confused, to my room, and about a half-hour later, the surgeon walked in and said: "Mr. Hope, we didn't find any perforation in your stomach. We didn't find an ulcer. I asked: "Didn't you find anything?", and He said: "Not even a scar." When I asked how did he account for that He said He didn't know. I asked if He believed in God, and He did. I asked if He believed God heals, and He didn't know. I told Him (and a nurse), that a great many people were praying for my full and complete recovery, and this was the result, and He said :"Well, O.K. if it works for you.' I phoned my daughter to come take me home, and while waiting, spread this testimony all over the hospital. One thing further, I have always been a very big eater, except when the Ulcer was giving me trouble, but since that day, I have been eating anything and everything. There have been periodic X-rays since, and no one has ever found evidence of an Ulcer in my Stomach. God not only healed me by the Power of His Holy Spirit, He gave me a brand new Stomach, and I even awaken in the wee hours of the Morning with Songs in my Heart, and Praise and Glory to My Master. Praise God!
